Green Lantern (2011)

New trailer here.

Anyway, they don't know how to market this thing. The first trailer made it look like a comedy, shooing our hero flirting with women and his superpowers, and everyone hated it. The next trailer was different, I don't remember how, but ir focus on the main character and I think it toned down the comedy, but it seemed to a response to whatevr was wrong with the first trailer, despite the fact that, if you are into seeing this movie anyway, there was nothing about the first trailer that screamed "crap".

Anyway they are clearly bot sure if they have found their audience so this new trailer is told entirely from or about the alien Latern Corp or whatever, ditching both the comedy elements and the human dramatic elements.

It all still looks crappy to me. Just another comic book movie.

The dog commercial after the trailer was more entertaining.

I dunno. I want to give this film the benefit of the doubt, but the more I see, the less and less enthusiastic I become. This is kinda ironic, because I really enjoyed the first trailer that everyone else hated!

I guess I should post "looks like cut scenes from a video game" before someone else decides that would be clever.

I like the new trailer, but then, the weird extrasolar aspect of this movie is what's got my attention (although as said, the pretty affable superhero doesn't hurt). The mythology is a trifle goofy - the yellow power of fear? - but I'll roll with it.

Just another comic book movie.

It is, at that, but frankly, space opera geek, and beggars can't be choosers. If it takes Hollywood's current superhero trend is what's gonna get me another movie with strange aliens and weird alien planetscapes, well, I'm willing to consider it.

And if I don't care for it there's always the sequels to Avatar and Star Trek. I'll get by.

Yeah this 3rd trailer is an odd one. I'm a Sci-Fi geek, so I'll see it anyway. But I really think the 2nd trailer was by far the best one, and the most appealing to a wide audience.

Seems like a little bit of Geoff Johns' mythological upgrade being worked in, where different colors are representative of different, err... emotions (though willpower is obviously not an emotion).

Though granted still somewhat goofy, but a fairly understandable one since humans have been doing it for millenia.

The movie looks awsome to me. I really enjoyed this trailer, but I think the second was better. I'm curious to see what my mom, who knows nothing about GL thinks of this trailer.

Trailer looks good. Wonder how many folks will think "it's a Star Wars ripoff"? (Green Lanterns = Jedi.) :D
Didn't they both steal from Lensman?

Given the JMS-led Lensman remake has been iced, I think, it's far better to steal from Lensman than try to adapt it, clearly.

Point.

On the other hand, I barely heard of Green Lantern before its movie prospects were brought up on this board and until I saw the trailers had no idea this comic book property featured alien races.

I dunno...the concept of "Space Police" is hardly that unique where only one would come up with it and all others were just ripping it off.

I mean, it's not like were talking about a taco that craps ice cream.
