The next villain?

Hey guys,

Me and my girlfriend love the recent star trek (it actually prompted her to enjoy the star trek franchise, thanks to the reboot!) and we were discussing about the next film. We both were wondering who the next villain (or villains) will be.

She mentioned the borg, and I said that is highly unlikely.

I really have high hopes that the Klingons will be back, and I have a strong expectation that the villain will be new and unknown to us (like Nero).

What do you guys think?

The writers have said the 'villain' of the next film may be something more along the lines of a force of nature than a person. Perhaps a destructive space anomaly? A planet suffering some catastrophe?

They've also hinted it may be a character from season one of TOS, so...

Ooh, a group of villains. The more the merrier. Could they be in cohoots with each other? You know T'Pring has to be in there to try and spoil that Spock/Uhura thing going. Could there be more to that green blooded female hobgoblin, than we know? I'm teasing myself and I need to quit, because there's still one more year to go.

That's what I heard too. That should be interesting too.

Sort of like the final frontier?

I really really hope for Andorians as antagonists and "segregation tendencies" as the villain, but that's just me.

Let's hope there is zero environmental message in it.

Yes, I'm with you 100% on that one.

Naturally they should spend a half hour detailing how a runaway carbon credit system actually lead to world war three and another hour or so devoted to explaining how we over came the much worse environmental situation the Earth was facing in the wake of that war.

However I completely agree. None of that should constitute any sort of "message". ;)

I just hope that the Borg, Klingons, Romulans and Khan aren't the villains in the next movie. I really prefer new villains or a race, which we haven't seen often.

Well, good luck to them on that one. Writers have been trying to come up with new and original antagonists since Greek drama...

I'd love to see R-rated Klingons showing what a brutal weapon a batleth can be, but that's never going to happen.

Weren't Lursa and Betor enough?

No. Enough would be guys like Ray Park in Klingon makeup slicing and dicing their way through armies of humans. When I see a weapon like the batleth and a warrior culture like the Klingons, I want Star Trek samurai! With all due respect to Michael Dorn and Terry Farrell, their lack of martial arts expertise and the limitations of broadcast TV greatly limited what they could do.

Contrary to popular opinion, I think the Borg could work as a villain. The audience won't be expecting it, but since this is a new reality, anything can happen. The key to the Borg is don't overuse them, and in two hours, you can't overuse them.
