Lisa Edelstein leaves House

Honestly, it sounds to me like FOX didn't want her back.

Actors usually get a significant pay raise for re-upping their contract for another season of a long-running hit show. Instead, they offered her a 40%+ pay cut. Yeah, I think they wanted her gone.

from what I understand everyone shy of Hugh Laurie and Olivia Wilde, who were both previously contracted for an 8th year and thus no negotiations were needed, have taken a pay cut. Robert Sean Leonard (Wilson) is getting his in the form of a reduced number of appearances... by some reports he might only be in as few as 6 episodes next season. Peter Jacobsen (Taub) and Omar Epps (Foreman) accepted the smaller salary outright, and as of today Jesse Spencer (Chase) is not signed at all.

Wowww. They at least need to have her back for one episode to have a proper sendoff. :/

It just sounds as if the only person they really wanted back was Hugh Laurie. The rest were entirely expendable.

Wilde wasn't. Several months ago, David Shore was talking about how there were major plans for the character in the eighth season, which is why they went out of their way to accommodate her need for time off for her movie career this year.

Well I think we all the know the endgame of her character next season.

Damn, this really sucks. Doclings are interchangeable and they can come and go as needed, but the House/Wilson/Cuddy holy trinity is an absolute must for the show. I like Agent Richard07's post about Wilson becoming the head of the hospital which would be a good way to keep things interesting, but the absence of Cuddy will certainly be felt. I think I'm in the vast minority who has loved the House/Cuddy relationship this season and I'm disappointed we won't be able to see it continue to grow.

FOX wasn't being insulting to the actors and were not trying to get rid of them. The ratings have dropped extensively this year. When the ratings drop, they can't charge as much for ads...whose prices have been dropping anyway, due to fewer people watching network TV.

Where do you think budget cuts come in on a show which has its sets built, its scripts written, its crews in place? The crews are unionized, so it's difficult to cut their pay. The easiest and most efficient place to cut salaries is in the top of the line talent, who are above their union scales and make the most of anyone on the show, except maybe the execs.

It's the nature of the biz...the actor's prices are only worth what's coming in. They'll pay Laurie anything, there's no show period without him, but everyone else needs to bite the bullet.
