Lisa Edelstein leaves House

I have mixed emotions about this; I love Lisa Edelstein, but I haven't been able to tolerate Cuddy for a long time, and they really wrote her into a corner this year, so I doubt I'll miss the character much at all.

Big fail on FOX's part.

They know this will be the last season of one of their biggest shows and ask Edelstein to take a pay cut when the show makes them millions? Way to go, bean counters.

Apparently Edelstein was making 175,000$ an episode this season, which was going to be cut to somewhere around 100,000$ an episode.

If she thinks she can make better money elsewhere, or has some other motivation to leave the show, more power to her.

Actors salaries in general are ridiculously bloated and eventually kill nearly every long running hit show on TV. They need salary caps for network TV!

Actors are arguably worth what they're paid, from a business perspective.

Let's say House makes Fox millions of dollars in profit per season. How much would it make if Hugh Laurie left the show? See his value now?

Just do a finale season and pay everyone off. She used to love the show and Hugh Luarie, so I think she just has had enough.

Cuddy should die next season and have it culminate in House committing suicide (either accidentally or deliberately) at the end of the season.

Wow. That's a really insulting pay cut for an actress on a hit series heading into its final season.

I'm disappointed that she'll be gone from House next season, but I think they've needed for House to have someone else as his boss for awhile now. I thought they missed a big opportunity in Season 5 when they had Cameron do Cuddy's job for an episode.

I hope that they'll give her a good send off and if next season is the end, I hope that she's back for the final episode or episodes.

Will miss Lisa Edelstein, been a fan of hers since The West Wing.

Why? TV isn't an essential service; no one needs House, M.D. to continue next year to survive. If an actor wants to get paid more money and can get the network to pay it, more power to them. Money from acting is one of the cleanest kinds of money out there -- you only get it if you make people happy in some way.

Cuddy leaving the show means they would have to bring in someone new to act as head of the hospital. I wonder what Cuddy's replacement is going to be like along with the dynamic between the new character and House.

Honestly, it sounds to me like FOX didn't want her back.

Actors usually get a significant pay raise for re-upping their contract for another season of a long-running hit show. Instead, they offered her a 40%+ pay cut. Yeah, I think they wanted her gone.

Eh whatever, she's a fine actress but her character has just been terrible this season. Unless something really cool happens in the finale I'm not going to bother watching it next season.

I just hope they don't end the season on some kind of cliffhanger that that needs her character present for proper resolution. But based on the promos I saw, it looks like that's a possibility.
