Re-Imagined K'tinga/D7

Awesome sculpt-build, politely curious if any line drawings or schematics are forthcoming ?

Just my initial idea sketch, which I scanned and made blueprints from. After it's all finished I'll make those available for anyone that wants to make a CG version of it.

I just realized that if you take my Enterprise F/H and chop off the saucer and other extraneous bits, it makes a jolly passable off-the-shelf Klingon design.

Thanks everyone, I appreciate the kind comments.

MadMan1701A that would be fine with me, when the model is complete I'll take ortho pictures.

To someone that asked the design process, I just drew a quick sketch, but for the most part I'm making it up as I go with no plans, haha.

To answer the questions of what it's made of. It's sheet styrene over a plexiglass frame.

I'm blown away that you're using a plexi-glass frame. I've seen that used on a Star Wars model. The Correllian Diplomatic Transport model. It's not the easiest stuff to work with (I've had experience with museum displays).

You've got a lot of small duplicate pieces. How are you replicating the cuts so precisely? And what tools are you using?

I'm really digging this model. It's not just the overall design that's pleasing to look at, but it's how clean the lines are- very professional.

That's so cool. That would make an excellent future Federation/Klingon design.

I haven't really thought of a name, or ship class for this. I wouldn't begin to figure that out. Thanks for the suggestion.

I'm doing some lighting tests on the nacelles. In my opinion most of the time the warp lighting is way too bright on the ships using LED for lighting so I'm varying the intensity of the LED's to see how it looks with the room lighting up, and in near darkness.

Your model is really fantastic, and once it's complete, I think we're all going to be in for a treat.

I have one request (not that you're in any way obligated to grant it)...please, PLEASE don't paint this ship green. I'm sick and tired of seeing every Klingon ship (and even retroactively in ENT) that silly olive green color.

^^^ I agree. Klingon ships should definitely be in the more gray range. Loving the warp engine effect - is that light sheet for the warp coils or some mini-LED's? Absolutely beautiful work overall... :techman:

also I think the engines should be red
red is a big Klingon color, interior, consoles etc are red

fantastic work REL! :techman:

Thanks everyone.

I'm leaning more towards a Kronos color scheme with this, but not so elaborate as this is just a ship of the line vessel and not a command ship. Maybe a greenish grey hull color, with more grey than green, and with maroon accents.

Wow. Your design is great and the fully realized product is amazing. Well done.

The ship is very similar to some of the designs in "Klingon Academy". I see similar aspects in the Accuser-class dreadnought and Emperor-class battlecruiser, and some others.

Perhaps the green elements of the hull color ought to be in more of a sage green, rather than the traditional olive. In the low-lighting picture of the nacelle lighting, the green light makes the hull seem kind of sage-y, which I think looks pretty good.

Always like the Kronos One color scheme.

More work on the pylons. The warp grills aren't attached yet, they won't be fitted until after paint.

Very nice work.

I'm always amazed at how crafty people can be when I see model work of this particular detail.

Are you creating molds of some sort?

I really have no idea what goes into making something wonderful like this and if you wouldn't mind giving some background for newbie amateurs and fans, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks. (Fantastic Reinterpretation of a classic design.)
