NBC is making the calls to producers right now... I should have held off on this thread for a couple of hours.

Edit: The Event is cancelled... and water is wet.

Nikita gets my vote. I decided not to go with Two and a Half Men. Even though it seems like it will obviously be canceled I think its good ratings will save it.

Why shows get cancelled: they're too smart and complicated and viewers are messing around on TrekBBS when they're supposed to be paying attention to the tube.

More boo hooing from Hollywood to explain why people reject their craptastic shows. This argument would have been a lot stronger if they hadn't used The Event as the poster child. :rommie:

I can't think of a single show this year that doesn't deserve to get cancelled on merit alone. And that includes all the ones that got renewed. There is literally nothing worth watching on broadcast. Even the stuff I do sorta watch - Chuck, Breaking In - aren't shows I'd miss in the least.

Maybe the reason people are playing with the internet while the TV is on is because the shows are boring.

Well off that list...

Parenthood and OTH's cast have been told they will be around next season, so there safe. Also Chuck seems to be safe for a final 13 episode run despite its poor ratings.

The Good Wife apparantly is safe and a 2 year deal is being inked despite low demo ratings, CBS seemingly is happy enough with the critical/award buzz its generating. A mix of TGW's likely renewal and CSI: Vegas facing a move to friday probably kills CSI: NY though. Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior is 50/50 but I expect a 13 episode pickup at least and I can't see CBS cancelling Blue Bloods though a retooling of the show is set to occur for season 2.

Everthing else is a no/no though I still think CBS would not go wrong by picking up a final RoE season of 10-13 episodes to burn off during spring since that would give it a nice sydnication package and CBS do own at least some of the show with Sony Productions I believe.

Deadline is saying they're hearing all three CSI shows will be back on the strength of their strong off-network and international revenue. We'll know soon enough.

That would mean CSI would probably stay on thursday but move around with The Mentalist. I think CBS would be right to bring all 3 back but NY is on borrowed time no doubt though I wonder does that mean TGW remains on tuesday, wasting NCIS lead in a little.

Re Chuck;

NBC is reportedly close to renewing comedy-drama Chuck for a fifth season.

The last two episodes have achieved ratings of 4.1m, with the show previously hitting a series low of 4.03m on April 11.

However, TV Line now reports that the series, which stars Zachary Levi as bumbling spy Chuck Bartowski, will return for at least 13 more episodes in the fall.

Though NBC declined to comment, the network is believed to be finalising a deal with Warner Bros to bring the show back.

Chuck co-creator Chris Fedak recently claimed that the conclusion to the current fourth season is not intended as a series finale, while Parenthood's executive producer Jason Katims also admitted that he is "cautiously optimistic" about the show's future.

Wouldn't surprise me if it gets a back nine, if the ratings don't fall too far. A nice 100 episodes for syndication.

Chuck getting a back nine will be bad news for NBC because it would only happen if their new shows flop hard again. 1.4/4 or lower is not what they're hoping for this fall.

If WB offer NBC a nice deal to air just 13 episodes then it won't be too bad as long as they move it because at the moment Chuck in any 8pm slot Mon-Thursday is not the way you want to start a night. They can always move it too fridays though with Dateline at 9pm and Harrys Law at 10pm.

Yeah, can't really have it opening a night, but then you could say that about most NBC shows and I guess something has to.

I'd imagine that WB have already offered NBC a sweet deal on the licence fee for the 13, and would probably do so for a further 9. Depends on whether WBs want 100 episodes to shop around for syndication I guess. That and how badly the rest of NBC's lineup is doing at the time.

If NBC only wants to air Chuck on fridays because its a big waste on any other night the problem for a back 9 is the midseason return of Who Do You Think You Are? though it could always air a back 9 on sundays after NFL in the 8pm slot leading up to "Watch Donald Trump's fake hair for 2 hours" :p

So is it official that The Event is cancelled?

Are we going to get an ending, or is this yet another Stargate-type situation where it will just stop?

^^^
I haven't watched any of it yet, so I don't know if it concludes properly or not. I would hope that the producers ended it on a note of closure since it's been obvious for a long time that a second season was highly unlikely.
