Other way to handle that is just stay off the forums. Tends to bring out the 'best of the best' at places like that. I mean, look at us here
Well it wouldn't be a problem if the Devs didn't actually listen to these people.
I agree. Sadly it looks like that is all they do is listen to the loud few that don't even agree with each other, so the company is always scrambling in damage control instead of making content.
When STO does fail these same people will be asking, "What happened, the game was just getting good imo?"
Then they will be off to try and ruin another MMO. fortunately Bioware has already told these same people where to go so they won't be ruining SWTOR.
That's honestly a complete over-exasggeration. Sryptic has done a lot of major improvements and have done new content rather quickly (imo) compared to most other MMOs. The Season 4 Update is just around the corner and has a lot of updates, and teh addition of the Duty Officer system, new tutorial for both Fed and KDF (and meaning new players don't have to start a Fed character and level it to 6 to 'unlock the KDF); and a revamp of the Klingon homeworld. The Feds will also be getting more planets and locations to visit in the SOL system, Ground Combat is getting a complete revamp; and post Season 4; they plan to release 9 Featured episode series a year, and keep that pace goping forward (with no more than a 2 week break between them); and STO is tghe first major MMO since Asheron's Call (years ago) to try a weekly content release schedule.
Asfor 'listening to whiners'; please, they listen to everybiody an generally keep a very even keel with regard to what they implement. And while I'm one of the folks who argued for and would have loved to see a T5 Constitution, CBS told Cryptic no; so, nothing they can do at that point.
Plus, if all they did was 'listen to the whiners'; that should have meant they have already reversed the decision as people are doing nothing but whining on their forums about the final selection CBS made for that contest.
As for SWToR - if the game ever gets released, what really dissapoints me is the fact it's a WoW clone (game mechanics wise - even down to the old MMO group 'trilogy' requirement of tank/healer/dps); plus the fact it's 'Space Combat System' (and I use the term loosly is going to be a 2D rail-shooter mini-game (that can be skipped); and there are just three 'player ships' (for player housing); and the ship you get is determined by which main class you choose (Your sub class specilization has no effect on what ship you get.)
And while full VO and all those cutscenes will be wonderful for you first character's playthrough; I think by yyour 3rd alt, you'll be escaping through the VO and cutscenes. Plus the full VO will mean any additional content takes longer to produce, and intigrate or adjust as tnhey ahve the extra burden (and cost) of producing the new VO and incorperating it. And it's probably why the game's release - first expected in late 2010 - is now expected in 2012; and perhaps even early 2013.
But for me, I don't find Cryptic's willingness to communicate and discuss STO game changes and ciontent tweaks with the community at large (even though I don't always agree with the final decision). It's an attitude and procedure I wish more MMO developers would adopt.
I think STO is definitely worth it; and with each season update and featured episode series addition, it's just getting better.
