Well had they had a warning about the cancellation, perhaps it would have been. Blame SYFY.
In my opinion there is no such thing as a five year story that cna be condensed into one. A five year story is a five year story. It takes five years to tell, you need five years to tell it. However, it is possible to take a one year story and try and stretch it out to five years, which is what it seems has been done here.
And that was a choice made by the writers/producers which SyFy didn't influence in anyway. All SyFy did was pull the plug on a show which wasn't bringing in numbers.
Now, you can argue that SyFy's interfernace screwed the show over, and to an extent you are right. There's plenty of blame to place on SyFy for SGU's current predicament. But they can't be blamed for the story not being finished.
