They pay attention to the books, but they aren't bound by them. For instance, when the books came along and eliminated the Borg after Cryptic had spent thousands of hours developing Borg content across the entire span of the game, they didn't strip it all out. They just put a reference in "The Needs of the Many" implying it happened in another timeline. :)

The same guy at CBS who approves the books approves Cryptic's stuff. Cryptic uses book stuff that makes sense in their universe, and doesn't use the stuff that doesn't make sense in their universe. Since neither is canon, there's no conflict.

Unless you're He Who's Name Must Not Be Spoken, and he gave up after Enterprise. *cough*JD*cough*

I'm not talking about STO I'm talking about CBS.

You sure becuase the guy who approves the books actually comes off as sane where as the guy who apporves STO stuff sounds like a TNG only fanatic.

Well, I've never gone into Cryptic's offices and watched the meetings, but it's what a Community person told me.

    Good news, everyone!
Cryptic has announced the upcoming 500 Days Veteran Rewards.
If you are playing for so long you will get:

    Relentless Title
    FREE Emblems (250)
    FREE Extra Ship Slot
FREE Exclusive Costume Piece (Federation): "Jupiter" Uniform Variant
FREE Exclusive Costume Piece (KDF): Shoulder Cape

I'm curious about the Jupiter uniform. It is an original to STO I believe? Hopefully it looks good.
Klingon Shoulder Cape. That should give you the Evil Overlord look you have always been looking for? Have we ever seen Klingons with a cape before?
Can't go wrong with an extra ship slot, can you?
And of course 250 emblems. With 8 toons that makes 2000 emblems for me!!!
Or will those only be available to my oldest toon? Still cool. Only can't decide what to do with so many.
Relentless title? Maybe for my Klingon. ;)

Very nice that they used a pic of the Connie to advertise their 500 day awards. It's like a big tease to those who want it.

Ye, terrible they use an iconic and vetran Star Trek ship to advertise a vet reward, eh?

Kruge from ST:TSFS? Although a "cape" extra does sound kinda lame, lol. :)

Yes, very terrible to use an UNAVAILABLE Iconic and Veteran Star Trek Ship that people want and are willing to pay for all because Cryptic is spineless and afraid of it's loud forum genners.

Good thing we now have the New Trek and all that nasty gen business is obsolete. Wonder why they picked TOS to start with?

Ship IS available, just not as a giant end-game option. More than welcome to fly around in the 1701, or the 1701-A. If you want more weapon and BO slots, choose something else. Don't choose one thing, and cry that it's not the other...

Because we've been fans since before you were born, and we have more money than you.

Dude I'm on your side and in that group!

I was insinuating that TOS is the best place to start because it is the best Trek.

So if they revamp STO, put the Paramount ships in at greater than T5 and leave the Sovy there you would be OK with that?

At 1200 Meters New Enterprise at T8

All other new fleet ships at T7

Kelvin at 625 meters as T6.

All the gen ships stay at T5

I'm honestly not so hung up on it that it's gonna ruin my day either way. Deep breaths...

Wanna fly a Connie? Fly one. Not as many slots for weapons, but you can fly it as a VA if you think it's ruining your role playing by using another ship...

In the end I might have to buy more character slots, as I want to have a Star Fleet Engineer, Tactical, and Science officer Characters.

Actually I prefer to fly the Prometheus. It's just sad we can't fly THE Iconic ship at end game is all.

I have the cane on both Toons, but will check out the shield and other goodies. (it's all that's left to do)

Well I'm not as old as well alot of you but I'm willing to spend cash on TOS stuff.

Sure if you like blowing up every time something looks at you as none of the skill points spent on ships after Lt. for TOS or Lt. CMDR for TMP effect these ships in the slightest way meaning you have weak shields, hull, and weapons.

Meh, the personal shield isn't as cool as I though it would be. At least they left the ghostbuster rifle alone I'm glad to get that back.

From what the Devs are saying it sounds like that might be something we can do later, right now they are just getting the basic system up.
