Green Lantern (2011)

It sure as hell looks like the comics, that much is certain. The Guardians have moved back toward being a little more human than they were at one point in the process, if one compares this with some of the merchandising images.

Remember when they were going to do this as a comedy with Jack Black?

They were seriously going to do that? I hate when they take something that was originally a series property, like Starsky and Hutch or Dukes of Hazard and turn it into an asinine comedy.

Obviously the spine of any two or three movie arc is what happens to Sinestro. That's a good call, and they'd be wasting real dramatic opportunities not to set it up and foreshadow it in this movie.

I think the Nolan Batman movies have set up a pretty good model: save your A-list villain for the sequel. That gives you something to interest audiences again and gets you two movies out of the two key elements of any superhero story - the origin and the arch-nemesis.

Then you coast in on the third and get your trilogy box-set.

The last trailer posted by Dennis made me hopeful again. The "comedic" ones released earlier got me worried, but current one is appropriately epic and uplifting. I wonder the wisdom of having the silly ones coming out first, but I know for sure I'm not the typical member of the general audience, so who knows.

The oath made me shiver. Good stuff.

The only problem is that only the fans are going to care about the A-list villain. I mean, The Joker is an international icon, Sinestro, not so much.

However, I agree that this is a good formula story wise and I wish Nolan had followed it with his Batman Trilogy. I would have loved it if they introduced Harvey Dent in the 1st, had him descend a bit into darkness in the 2nd with the movie ending on a cliffhanger of him getting scarred. And then have the third movie be the Two Face movie.

For this reason alone, I'm really looking forward to Green Lantern and the second trailer blew me away in a way that the first trailer did not.

How did you get the Newtons & District Astronomer's Guild site to work? That was the one I was posting about upthread that kept giving me errors when I tried to go to it.

I'm pumped for this movie right now. Green Lantern has always been a favorite of mine (mostly Kyle and Alan, but beggars can't be choosers), so I'm really excited to see this on the big screen. Now that the second trailer was really good, most of my worries are gone. However, I do still have one worry. This could be the make or break film for future DC prospects. As much as I love GL, I really would love to see Green Arrow, The Flash, and Martian Manhunter and maybe even Captain Marvel done, but if GL doesn't make a lot of money, then there's little hope. If it's good I may have to see it multiple times in theaters.
