Design the Next Enterprise

Still don't believe it. this is the first thing I saw when I opened my email.
"
Hey Adam,

Congratulations!

You are the Grand Prize Winner of the Design the Next Enterprise contest! Your submission, 1259, was excellent and truly represented where CBS and Cryptic saw the Enterprise in 2409.

The Grand Prize that you have won consists of one Alienware M11x Laptop with Custom Star Trek Online paint job, one Collector's Edition of Star Trek Online and a lifetime membership to Star Trek Online. The Grand Prize also includes a 3D model of your ship that will be created and sent to you and your ship will be built and placed in Star Trek Online by Cryptic Studios."

Well, Congrats Adam! and to everyone else that was lucky enough to place!

Edit to add: crap, was hoping to at least get in the top 25.

Congratulations Adam! You've got a part in Trek history.

Your design reminds me of Probert's painting of the preliminary Enterprise-C.

Congrats on being a part of STAR TREK History :) :techman:

Well, still hoping I might get an email tomorrow, but am guessing all of them went out at nearly the same time.

That is exactly what I was thinking.

Congrats Adam. Get ready for an interesting ride. Take it from me, and put you shields up. You will get hit from all directions with both ends of the spectrum. I sure did and do still with the Titan. You will get people who will totally bash you. But here is what really matters...you are now part of the Trek family. I am here to say welcome to the family. You did it the Enterprise F is all yours.

Sean, I have been in the entertainment industry for 15 years so I am ready for the backlash and brow beating. Funny I never really thought about the similarities to the E_C all I was going for was a saucer section that was now held by a single neck but 2 outriggers, but now that I look at it it does look like the prelims for the "C". Wow, a part of the Star Trek family.

I think it's better to be polarizing.

I was flabbergasted when I saw the Titan - I was all like "Goodness gracious, there is nothing titanic about this vessel at all - its descriptive designation is spurious!"

Then after I'd read the books, it started growing on me, and at this point, I quite like the ship. Mind you, I think the transition to 3D renders, and seeing it in motion in game mods, animations, etc was a big leap in how the ship looked to my eye.

Adam, I'll honestly admit to having a lukewarm reaction to your Enterprise-F as a whole, but hey, I remember saying something about the Titan (at the time of the design contest) to the effect of - [SHIELDS UP, SEAN!]

"it looks like an Akira got shoved up a Sovereign's butt"

[Stand-down from battlestations. All sections, Condition Green]

I rather like the saucer, the necks, and the swoopy nacelles, but something about the engineering hull and the nacelle pylons is just kinda off to me. Just personal taste, which as always, cannot be accounted for. So, just as I can't get inside the STO judge's heads, or yours, all the "haters" definitley - you know what, screw it, I completly lost my train of thought.

It's also a very simple line drawing. It could morph a lot as the design is cemented into a 3d model. It will be interesting to see how much control they give you as the design matures Adam.

I'm excited to finally see a result from this. Congratulations to all the talented people here who got recognition for their designs, and especially to the winner. I hadn't seen the design until now, and I really like it. It's something a little bit different while still retaining a very clear Enterprise profile. The nacelles remind me a bit of the JJ-prise, and the deflector reminds me of Voyager. I mean those both as good things incase anyone was wondering

I expect a lot of flack on this design, I myself was no where near happy with it but I was rushing to get it in by the deadline. The secondary hull is clunky i know. and the nacelles are no where near finished. I hope the artists at Cryptic can make it look a little more refined.

I like the secondary hull. I can clearly see elements from all of the previous Enterprises in the design. It has the barrel back of the 1701/A, the sturdy chunkiness of the C, a shaped deflector reminiscent of the D, the swept forward look of the E, all rolled into one. The saucer looks similar to the D/E one, but much cleaner.
The only part that doesn't look entirely practical to me is the thinner struts holding the saucer to the secondary hull, but that's also what makes the design distinctive without being too radically non-Enterprise. I don't think any design is going to please everyone, and there are going to be elements people like and don't like. But overall when I look at it and am told it's the official Enterprise F, I'm willing to accept it. It's not like every previous Enterprise has been without its faults anyway, so don't worry too much about the criticism.

Do you have any other views/sketches of the ship, or just the front 3/4 view on the site? I'd be half interested in taking a crack at the basic shape in 3D myself, and I'm sure others would too.

No problem. :) Was just curious. And I'm not sure what the deal will be now that you've won the comp anyway. They might take you out with a phaser for posting anything more.

Also, the phaser is set to kill, not stun.

EDIT: Woah, I missed an entire two pages of thread.

Congrats everyone.

EDIT 2 - Electric Boogaloo: Ok, just had time to process it all. Ihlecreations, I've always liked your design, and quite honestly i'm more than happy its the Enterprise F. With hindsight I guess yours is one of the most "familiar" designs (I mean that as a compliment) out of all the submissions so I guess that played into the whole "not deviating too far" aspect of the judging. Regardless, Im happy you won and I look forward to taking a stab at making it in 3D :D

Congratulations, Adam. I have a few beefs with the way the contest was run but I think they came up with a good winner. I'm looking forward to seeing the in-game version. :techman:
