Portal 2

^You're just not trying hard enough. Simply make a new account for every game you buy... and sell the account on Ebay when you're done...

Yeah. Steam's got us by the balls :(

I buy most of my games on Steam now . . . can't return 'em :p

Yeah that's why I hate digital gaming (as opposed to a physical media). No resale value.

Question for the Portal veterans. I started Portal 2 and then heard there was some story elements from Portal that carry over. So I picked up the Orange Box this weekend and started on Portal 1 as I could tell it was a game that I'm going to really like. I feel like I've moved through several levels and I'm not finding ANY story to it whatsoever. Beat a puzzle, move to the next level, rinse and repeat. Is there more to it that I just haven't gotten to yet?

patience, the story will come.

Beat Portal 2 singleplayer. I actually found the puzzles easier compared to the first game.

The guy who left the "the cake is a lie" hidden messages on the walls in the first one wrote that as well, apparently.

Interesting, I've looked at several FAQs to get an idea for how long the game is and they all seem to end at the conclusion of room 19.

Why are you trying to spoil a game while you're still playing it? If you knew what was coming wouldn't it be less enjoyable?

Why is everybody so concerned about how I play my games? But to answer your question, I'm not looking at the solutions (not yet anyway) or the story, just trying to get an idea for how far a long I am.

Now I did buy this game to understand the Portal story, which is ironic for me, because I don't normally give two shits about the story in a video game.

If you don't want people to comment about it, don't post about it on a global messageboard.

Does commenting on something open you up having people tell you what to do with YOUR GAME? I sure don't think so. And when people tell me what to do, I'm pretty quickly going to tell them to go fuck themselves.

Yes. You did. You telling me how I should enjoy my game. You phrase in it a question, but clearly you don't approve. And how I play MY GAME is not for you to approve or disapprove.

They were questions directly related to questions that you had already asked. You're over-sensitive and over-defensive so perhaps I hit a nerve but they were genuine questions. So suck it up, basically.

Room 19 is not like the others.

That being said, Portal 1 was very short. It was really just a tech-demo to demonstrate the concept and it ended up being so popular that they made it into a full game with Portal 2. The story in Portal 1 was minimalist compared to the crazy hijinks you get up to in Portal 2.

I may be over sensitive but I am sick to death of people on this board telling other people what they should or shouldn't do, or how they should or shouldn't watch a movie, or how they should or shouldn't play a game, or what they should or shouldn't like, etc, etc, etc.

Your question had nothing do with the subject at hand, but instead was a jab directed at me because you don't approve of the fact I looked at a FAQ. What fucking possible difference does it make about Portal 1 or 2 whether I look at a FAQ or not? None whatsoever. How does it affect your game playing? It doesn't. You just felt the need to interject YOUR OPININION on my game playing. And that's none of your fucking business. And the fact that you have the attitude "well just suck it up" tells me you still don't get WHY it's wrong to do that.

I gathered maybe that it was longer. I noticed it seemed like at about room 14 or 15, it seemed like difficultly level ramped up quite a bit. I also noticed it had a bit more of a "platformy" feel to it at that point.

By that I mean it became no longer just about brain power but also had a lot to do with making timing jumps just so-so and hitting the portals just right and so forth. That goes back to what I said earlier about how I like games but sometimes parts are annoying. Those timing jumps are annoying. (for me anyway)

Are you telling us that we shouldn't do it?

I'm saying people ought to be able to offer a thought, a comment, an opinion here on this BBS without someone else coming along making a personal insult, or telling them what to do, feel, think, or telling them they should do this or need to do that.

Not sure why that's such a hard concept to understand. It appears to me you're just looking for a fight. So instead of engaging you, I'll leave it at that. If you want to fight, I'm not going to engage you.

EDIT TO ADD: If you're were making a joke, my apologies.

Portal 2 is less like that and it's more about solving the puzzles, which is one of the reasons why some feel Portal 2 is easier. I think that's the right way to go about it, the main game should be about solving the puzzles and the advanced chambers should be about timing and mad portal skills.
