I would love to see either a film or a mini-series based on the 'Stainless Steel Rat' Series of books.

The film rights to THE STAINLESS STEEL RAT were optioned several years ago. Not sure what the current status is.

Said it before and I'll say it again-someone with talent needs to lock onto Little Fuzzy by Piper. The spin-off toys alone would make a fortune if it was done right.
As for The Warlock In Spite OF Himself-I don't know that you could dump the whole democracy thing-it's kind of the motivation for the character for the first book.
And could someone tell me why Allen Steele's Inner Space stories aren't under consideration? They seem ideal for movies.
Also, any word on Nance's Orbit? I'd heard it was optioned w/Brad Pitt considering the lead...but that was last year.
The Warlock In Spite Of Himself without the democracy aspect would be about as faithful an adaptation as the Earthsea miniseries they put out a few years ago.

Why can't they do a series based on 2001 space odessy : the search for David Bowman and the mysterious monolith and the ancient civilization that built it. He is missing and presumed dead, isn't he. Well where did he go?

Yes, but with Hollywood money so you can go bigger, longer and which would hopefully also allow a more complex story and characters.
If I listed 10-15 things I'd wanted to see about 2-3 yrs ago, Green Lantern would have been in there somewhere.
I'd like to see:
Rendevous with Rama-The first book only, then a NEW sequel not based on the books if it does well.
Foundation Trilogy-(in the works)-A 3 movie series.
Childhood's End-One of ACC's best stories
Gregory Benford's Galactic Center series-One of the more amazing backdrops for a story that would ever be seen on film.
David Brin's Uplift-Ambitious, but I think this is one of the more doable milieus.
Jack McDevitt's Academy series-Starting with Engines of God
Stephen Baxter's The Timeships-Sequel to the Time machine involving Morlocks, Dyson spheres.
Larry Niven's Known Space-This is a no-brainer. By far the easiest universe to create on screen. Ringworld, Man-Kzin wars, all ripe for filming.
Lensman-Think about it, there has been nothing LIKE Star Wars since SW. ST is a totally different animal. Dune attempted it in 1984, but its just not the same to mass audiences. This is a chance for large scale pulp to be popular again. To a small extent it feels like part of it is making to the screen in a stripped down version with Green Lantern.
Forbidden Planet Remake-The long stalled, planned version.
