"If only" Hollywood would do this...

I would love to see a miniseries version of The Starlost done the way Ellison originally intended the series to go. I've read both Harlan's script and its novelization by Edward Bryant, and there was a hell of a lot of potential there that, sadly, we never got to see.
 
A future space adventure series, with real world physics.. say 500+ years in the future, Colonies on the Moon, Mars and larger asteroids some hostile to others with different styles of government/society...Asteroid mining..Jovan and Saturn bases..assorted space stations.. and our intrepid crew keeping the peace between and on them..

With political intrigue, infighting..and the hint of "something" out there in the Oort Cloud.

Well written and well produced..with just enough budget to keep the stories flowing...


but that's a damn pipe-dream...

instead we get cooking shows on that damn SyFy channel..and fishing shows...
 
Ooh, either a TV miniseries or full movies of the entire Series of Unfortunate Events, done with less comedy and extremely faithful to the books. Followed by a Daniel Handler-written prequel movie showing young versions of the adults in the books.
 
Some ideas...


  • A television adaptation of the 2001 series of books, being more faithful to the books than the film. Could work well as a televised drama.
  • A movie entirely centred around the character of Ric Olié. ;)
  • A remake of the star wars prequels. Done decently.
  • A big screen adaptation of 'We will Rock you' combining a huge orchestra with rock music.
  • A romantic-post apocalyptic future, where humans have taken over the earth and a resistance group of machines is trying to survive. Also a love story between two operating systems that shouldn't really interact.
  • I would like to see a Retro-Futuristic/Cyberpunk version of Flash Gordon set in 1936. Scenes on earth would be set in the retro-futuristic world whereas on Mongo the scenes would be Cyberpunk/Neo-noir type place, to create a very sharp contrast between the two.

If any of that makes sense...

I think a more Earth centric Star Trek type spin off might be interesting where wierd stuff takes place within the galaxy alone or just on Earth itself. Matrix being an example of a world within a world scenario. Also combining fantasy elements seems the way to go.

I hope Bear got a cut from that show, because actionable similarity or not, that is almost beat for beat the same as "Blood Music."
 
Fevre Dream by George R. R. Martin. Vampires on steamboats . . . it's a natural.

Maybe GAME OF THRONES will encourage Hollywood to check out the rest of Martin's backlist.
 
Fans should stop caring what Hollywood does. What is this obsession with getting to see your fan favorite on the movie screen. Isn't your imagination good enough or do you have imaginations anymore.

Harsh and unfair. With the capabilities Hollywood has now, a visualization of some of the better works out there would be a treat for the fans. Imagination? Excuse me-we dream of alien worlds, alternate histories and time travel-I don't think our imaginations are in any danger. As for caring about what Hollywood does-since they mostly support the stereotype of the nerdy geek in Mommy's basement with their 6th grade portrayal of science fiction as a genre I should think we need to care. For every Gattaca there's Robot Jox-and that's just sad. Crime dramas are taken seriously-why not science fiction? It's far past time for the inmates to take over the asylum, IMO.....
 
I'd like a Gotham Central type television series. I don't see it ever happening, but I'd like to see it.
 
King Conan with Arnold and directed by John Milius

A Superman, Batman & Wonder Woman movie leading into Justice League

50s / 60s Bond movie remakes/reboot (Get a youngish actor and make movies of all the books in order)

A Ghostbusters 3 that isn't a 'passing the torch' movie
 
Would love to see a Frederick Pohl's Gateway series, perhaps as an HBO miniseries. Also Vernor Vinge's Zone of Thought series, aka Fire Upon The Deep, A Deepness in the Sky and the upcoming Children of the Sky. The usenet style of communication in the the first book feels a little dated at this point, but the scope of this series is amazing, and the different factions feel a little like the factions you'd see in fantasy like LOTR or A Game of Thrones. I don't think anyone has ever tackled space physics the way he has.

Supposedly, that was close to happening, but the double whammy of Nolan's films and the failure of Birds of Prey put an end to that.
