Osama Bin Laden is Dead

If this had happened in the first few weeks of the Obama administration, I'd be willing to give it to him...but he's retardely wrong in this case.

I'm gonna get flamed for this, but this is what I see. Glad we got Osama, yay.

However, I think Obama is going to take all the credit for it, he wants to go down as the president who got Osama. And that just isn't the case, all the hard work at trying to get at Osama was done by Bush, Obama didn't do a thing to go after him. But since this went down during Obama's presidency, he'll get the credit, and that's just wrong.

Obama will use this to boost his ratings to get re-elected, that is all this is, a ploy to bring favor towards him cause he wants to get re-elected. He's done the Tornado thing recently, the Trump thing, and now he's got this in his bag. It is all a ploy to get people to cheer for him so they will re-elect him next term.

So many people are already saying Way to go Obama... but he didn't do a darn thing.

Um...no. This was an effort that spanned both presidencies. The intelligence that initially put them on his trail was obtained from detainees during Bush's term. Following that lead eventually led to what happened yesterday. This wouldn't have happened without the efforts of either President. Sure, Obama will get more credit than Bush, but both Presidents deserve some. I've actually been pleasantly surprised to see that most people on both sides of the aisle seem to agree that both played an important role, and few have tried to ignore one or the other, at least so far.

This will certainly give Obama's approval ratings a boost, although most likely only temporarily. If his motivation were purely to aid his reelection, as you seem to think, his timing kind of sucks. It won't give him much of a benefit by the November of next year. That's just too far away.

When he Obama was running for President he specifically stated that if a high-value target (*Cough*Bin Laden) was hiding in Pakistani territory would he authorize an incursion by American forces into their territory to get that target.

Obama said yes he would and McCain said that no operation should ever happen before first consulting Pakistan's government and having approval even if that meant long delays in acting on intelligence and (IMO more importantly) TIPPING OFF the target by sources in the Pakistani government.

Bush's policy from the second the US sent forces near the Afghan border and determined terrorists were crossing freely and hiding in Pakistan was to consult the Pakistanti Government on every single mission. Bush in the waning months of his Presidency finally relented a bit on that and allowed American forces to act more quickly without immediate approval from the Pakistani government.

So to say it's simply a product of the previous President and his actions is pretty misleading when the current President was advocating these types of missions very strongly and being criticized for it while he was running for the Presidency. Now fast forward to 2011 and Obama has continued to be criticized for backing up and carrying these missions out.

The US finally had to relent and move a Predator drone refueling base out of Pakistan a few weeks ago. I don't think it's biased to say that these types of missions have been much more common under the Obama administration than during the Bush administration.

So you're basically saying the previous President deserves more of the credit because finally on his way out the door he ratcheted up things in an attempt to get Bin Laden or other high value targets in the waning days of his Presidency... Where as the current President specifically ran with this as one his beliefs that the US should act and do whatever it takes if they have actionable intelligence on these high value targets. He continued it despite attacks by the opposing party and some within his own party.

He continued it even while criticism has continued to build through-out his entire term from opponents about these covert missions and has had Pakistan complain more and more as well.

Sorry... I just don't see how you can put this credit on Bush.

To be fair, the attempts to get him spanned three presidencies. Clinton missed, Bush 43 missed, but Obama got him. I can't explain why I think this, but I think that it had to be in the Obama Administration that Osama Bin Laden by the hand of US forces. It had to be this way...

This is good for America, and good for Obama.

FBI Page Update:

I'm interested in something - why isn't the 2001 New York attack mentioned there? It says he's wanted for the 1998 bombings and as a suspect in other attacks - does that mean he was a suspect, not confirmed as being behind the 2001 incident? If that's not the case, why isn't this major, major incident mentioned on that profile? I am missing something?

We can't get along until our civilization evolves into one like star trek. Terrorists will always be around becuase they like instilling fear.

I don't think this should become a movie. How many war movies have been made already.
I say a Documentary will be better. Better to not hollywood the situation.
