Royal Wedding (Prince William & Kate)- R U Waking Up Early to Watch?

Re: Royal Wedding (Prince William & Kate)- R U Waking Up Early to Watc

I saw some highlights on the news and was surprised to see William in Guards red. I figured since he's on active service with the RAF that would be the obvious uniform to go with. That seems like kind of a snub to his squadron-mates: "That uniform is good enough for you lot, but for my wedding I've got to have something really smart to wear."

The ceremonial seemed to have been handled with the usual British precision. I can't imagine watching it without a fast forward.

I DVRed it and watched it this afternoon. What a lovely, enjoyable wedding.

We need a little fantasy and escapism every now and then and the wedding fit the bill for me perfectly.

I wish the couple best of luck and think that they have a good shot at lasting.

But - Beatrice - WTF was that ugly thing on your head? :D

I assumed antlers. :ouch:

I kinda' I wish I had tuned in.

 I love the little girl putting her hands over her ears.

This deserves a "caption this" thread.

I don't really care about this wedding, lots of people get married all the time that I don't know, I don't need to watch them on TV. Why should their wedding be any more important.

Re: Royal Wedding (Prince William & Kate)- R U Waking Up Early to Watc

J.T.B the broadcasts explained why William was wearing Guards red...he's wearing a blue RAF wings patch on his sash in recognition of the RAF.

^^ That pic is glorious lol.

I think it's also about the pomp and circumstance, the crowds the celebrations, the cavalry, it's practically a fairytale wedding.

It's said about 2bn people tuned it to watch it around the world, so its up there with;

- The rescue of the Chilean miners (1bn)
- Jacko's memorial service (2bn)
- The funeral of Princess Diana (2.5bn)

he's been made colonel-in-chief of the Irish Guards recently and they were forming the guard of honour, so that's why.

similarly, Harry was in his Household Cavalry uniform, not his Army Air Corps one, even though he's with the AAC now as an Apache pilot.

^ Harry as Apache pilot. There's a scary thought :)

Re: Royal Wedding (Prince William & Kate)- R U Waking Up Early to Watc

why? when he was in Afghanistan, he was a JTAC, controlling air cover.

My little sister can read lips and when she saw it during the highlights on GMA, since she's lame and didn't watch the ceremony, and according to her Harry said, "She's gorgeous, wait 'til you see her."

She also caught that the Queen was crying and when they bowed to her she said "Thank you"

She could not tell what William said to Kate when she got to the alter though.

She could not tell what William said to Kate when she got to the alter though.

One of the entertainment shows later reported that their "lip reading expert" said William told Kate she was beautiful and then made a joke to Kate's dad saying that the wedding was supposed to be just a small family affair.

I don't know if that's correct or not, but it's funny, so I'll buy it.

Re: Royal Wedding (Prince William & Kate)- R U Waking Up Early to Watc

What was it he said to William at that moment that made him smile? Can anyone lip read?

It looked to me like "I think you're in for a shock." :p
I thought he was indicating Pippa and said, "I wanna tap that ass."

They're both right.
I'm pretty sure the seedier British newspapers and pseudo-tabloids are already attempting to pair up Harry and Pippa, delighting in making it look like she doesn't care for his antics, or some entertaining combination thereof.

As for their cousins Beatrice and Eugenia, we now have a modern reference point for the "Ugly Stepsisters." Beatrice looks absolutely psycho in every picture I've seen and her hat looks like a twisted cross between a cat toy and a uterus, while Eugenia looks absolutely pissed to be there and having to juggle her substantial bosom about its ill-fitting bodice.

It's so sad, because they don't realize I'm there to comfort them. Both of them. At the same time. :(

Re: Royal Wedding (Prince William & Kate)- R U Waking Up Early to Watc

You can have Beatrice. I'll take Eugenie. So long as she understands that my wife will be willing to assist in the comforting.

That sounds like a fair arrangement. We'll do that.

I thought that one of the the ABC commentators (don't remember who) said that they were wearing Army uniforms. They said it was a big deal because the Royal Navy is the senior British military service. Of course that comment seems out of context because because neither William or Harry are in the Royal Navy. Perhaps they were not fully explaining themselves and were trying to say that they were surprised William or Harry never joined the Royal Navy in the first place.

Re: Royal Wedding (Prince William & Kate)- R U Waking Up Early to Watc

^ LOL... ok below is what wikipedia says. Guess he does have a Navy rank. Shows what I know!

As a serving Royal Air Force flight lieutenant who also held the equivalent Royal Navy rank of lieutenant and Army rank of captain in the Blues and Royals, William could have chosen to wear the uniform of any of these junior officer ranks. However as he had been appointed honorary colonel of the Irish Guards on 10 February 2011, he chose instead to wear the full dress uniform of that regiment. He wore the peaked hat of the Irish Guards, rather than the bearskin hat. As a Knight of the Order of the Garter, he wore the order's blue riband, to which was affixed his RAF wings and Golden Jubilee Medal. The uniform was made and fitted by Kashket and Partners. William did not wear a sword as he was entering a church.

The wikipedia article is supposedly quoting The Telegraph.
