Royal Wedding (Prince William & Kate)- R U Waking Up Early to Watch?

Re: Royal Wedding (Prince William & Kate)- R U Waking Up Early to Watc

*Sigh* I love her dress, it's so pretty! Simple, but elegant. And I'm definitely a fan of the veil, I've never liked fluffy, puffy frou-frou veils, when I got married I went out of my way to find a mantilla.
Very classy indeed, very Grace Kelly of her:techman::)
Beautiful ceremony, all in all:)
The Prime minister and his wife looked good also.
I liked her dress..somehow very 1960s vibe in it(for me anyway)

Gorgeous dress for a gorgeous young woman. Many happy returns for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. :D

I thought the dress was very contemporary, actually. My own dress, three years ago now, was quite similar (right down to the cathedral train, which makes me feel kind of validated that I did indeed look like a princess on my wedding day  ) I don't follow fashion, and I don't know that I've ever seen 1960s style wedding dresses, so maybe the contemporary style is one of those "back in fashion" type things?

On a slightly different note, I'm sorry, what was on Princess Beatrice's head?

I have to say, Westminster Abbey is gorgeous. I'd love to visit there some day.

They do a good Bed & Breakfast deal. The bells might be a problem at night though.

So, from tomorrow, the UK media start trying to split Wills & Kate - and ram *that* down our throats for hours a day.

(oh, wait, there'll have to be a christening first, that's how these things go. It's probably pencilled in for October or something...)

Let me check my watch real fast.

Hmmm.

Nope. It's still not time for me to give a shit.

Kate's dress was beautiful! I watched the ceremony on ABC. It was annoying that ABC's logo and graphics at the bottom of the screen blocked the view of the bottom of Kate's dress when she got out of her car.

I was surprised that the vows came so early in the wedding ceremony. I found myself nodding off later in the ceremony during all of the singing. William himself looked like he was nodding off a bit when he was listening to the singing as he sat next to Kate.

BTW, I know that right now they are called the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. So I am guessing that means that technically/officially Kate is not a Princess yet? Does she become Princess once Charles becomes King? How does that work?

The hats of Princess Beatrice and Eugenie were quite entertaining! The British do seem to be a bit more fond of hats than Americans.

Some expert on toffs, who they interviewed on the radio, said that she can't be made a princess because she's not of royal blood. She'll have to make do with being Her Royal Highness. She'll get to be Queen in about 20+ years or so. We'll all be riding horses and be knee-deep in their by-product if the oil has run out out by then.

Re: Royal Wedding (Prince William & Kate)- R U Waking Up Early to Watc

No kidding. The actual marriage part took like five minutes.

Yeah this is all pomp and circumstance for like a ten minute formal ceremony lol.
I thought the actual ceremony was too long. Too many hymns and the vows were too long and drawn out.

I'm sure they'll get lots of shagging done on their honeymoon. They're a Duke and Duchess though!! That's pretty cool :)
So I'm guessing she's now Catherine Elizabeth Windsor, Duchess of Cambridge? I did a quick search and can't confirm that her last name has changed. I'm guessing it has given the nature of this marriage.

Re: Royal Wedding (Prince William & Kate)- R U Waking Up Early to Watc

Looked like Kate's jaw was a bit tense during the vows. It also looked like she almost messed up William's name.

I didn't go in the end.

I hear music outside though.

Re: Royal Wedding (Prince William & Kate)- R U Waking Up Early to Watc

I have quite a few Brits on my twitter feed, but the only person tweeting about the wedding was Dara O'Briain (who is a comedian from the Republic of Ireland for those who don't know him)! Stephen Fry was watching the snooker

This is Dara's summation:
In summation, then: No, Chewie didn't get a medal; and Jerusalem is the Prod's best choon. Better go now, this Portal 2 won't play itself...

Re: Royal Wedding (Prince William & Kate)- R U Waking Up Early to Watc

I woke up early enough (hey 11 is early for me!) to watch proceedings from the Royal Family's arrival at the Abbey until the end of the ceremony, though was busy making a cup of tea during part of the exchanging of vows.

All in all quite good fun.

The Good

- Some nice fashions on display. Zara Phillips, Sam Cam, and Kate Middleton's mother were my favourites, though almost everyone did pretty well. Even the Elton John, David Furnish and David & Victoria Beckhams of the world managed to dress reasonably well (ie didn't try upstage the royals). A fun display of hats too. I thought Kate's dress was quite splendid; very elegant with the long full veil giving it an ironic touch of the nunnery. Quite cheeky in its own way; quite an appropriate contribution to a modern royal wedding from the house of the late Alexander McQueen.
- The couple seem genuinely happy and excited, and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves with the kind of nervous banter that's familiar to any wedding.
- the sun came out for the carriage ride back to the palace, which was a lovely touch. - the kiss of the balcony was nice too.
- the RAF fly-past seemed pretty low over the palace, and looked appropriately nostalgic.

The Bad

- ferrying the foreign/minor royalty in executive minibuses. I lol'ed, along with Simon Schama who was unlucky enough to be commentating on air at the time.
- Princess Eugenie needs to avoid dresses with padded shoulders. David Cameron (and several others) need to hem their trousers a bit shorter.
