That's exactly right - traditionally, at least, Centauri males have larger crests the more political power they gain. The series will actually have a couple of interesting (if minor) character moments built on this, some of them deliberately underplayed. The females shave their heads because officially politics is a male role, not a female one (though of course you'll see it's a lot more complex than that in reality)
Great review of the episode, by the way. It's always great to read first-time viewer reviews, and I'm glad you seem to be enjoying it. This is a series that really rewards you for this pondering, "puzzling it out" attitude.

Thanks for confirming that on the crests. I thought it was the case but when we saw the lord with his large crest, it was confirmed. I guessing the Emperor looks like a peacock.
As for my detailed review, had to put it down to get all the threads of a rather thick episode down pat.
This wasn't really addressed, so I'm going to ask the question directly: what is everyone's personal * preferred * viewing order for B5: Crusade that works best from both a 'continuity of storyline' and 'continuity of cast' perspective (working around the uniform change as organically as possible)?

From that thread, I stand by my previous opinion on the matter.
And more good CGI to come, lots of it still in season one.
Indeed, Watched Grail, and it had a rather well rendered CGI alien...

Wow, interesting. I hated the Raiders stuff in that episode, and really didn't think Claudia Christian was up for carrying a subplot like that. The main plot, however, I thought was terrific. Most people seem to dislike it, but as much as I love Trek, I liked the "non-Trek" ending this one took. Plus I'm a sucker for Franklin in moral dilemmas.

Saw a few Episodes - Eyes was fun, saved by Jeffery Combs.
A Voice in the Wilderness - Didn't think it was as dense as "Signs" but still highly entertaining and Londo should be arrested for grand theft as he steals each bit that he is in.
I liked signs the most, and Infection the worse so far, just 4 episodes and I will be finished with season 1
^They couldn't arrest Londo if they wanted, nor any of the ambassadors or aids for that matter. Diplomatic immunity.
I've always been of two minds on this one. On the one hand i can certainly appreciate it's flaws and won't even try do defend them but on the other, I can't help remember watching this episode when it first aired back in the early 90's and being floored by the ending. Back then, this kind of thing just wasn't done in these kinds of stories. Had it been TNG then there would have been some smug lecture about morality and cultural tolerance and the parents would have taken the kid away alive and still breathing...or the doctor wouldn't have done anything in the first place and watched the kid die. Having the parents ritually murder their own child out of superstition just surprised the hell out of me and showed some real stones. For that reason alone, I give this episode more credit that it's production values alone might rate.

I think he means Londo steals every scene from the other actors. :P

2. And the Sky Full of Stars
3. Signs and Portents
4. Babylon Squared
5. Midnight on the Firing Line
Crazy thing to keep in mind, though: I rank about half of seasons 2 and 3, and almost every episode of Season 4, above all five of those!

BTW, it was nice to see Ron Canada as the captain of the Heavy Cruiser in the last episode I saw, he is in one of my fav movies, "Lone Star". That and it was a nice touch to show him strapped down when he is in his ship that has no spinning, thus is in freefall.

DH, that poster is awesome; Londo is definitely one of the most enjoyable characters in the series, although my favorite character from Season 1 is actually Ivanova.
Just chiming in to say that I also love the poster.
