"Uh'll be back." - Another Terminator for Arnie

It might be silly but the idea of a robot not realising it's a robot and then taking on big nasty mean robots is so cool I forgive its silliness. It reminds me of something... no, it's gone, like tears in rain.

Here's hopin' he plays the human that the Terminator was modelled after, and not a Terminator. He's gettin' too old for that sort of thing, and it showed in Rise of the Machines.

Maybe they can get Robert Patrick, too, for the same reason...

Human resistance fighters used as default Terminator models.

Thank God I'm not the only one who thinks like that.

That's awesome! I never saw the deleted scenes.

I was thinking the same thing about Arnie but it never occured to me about Robert Patrick. Good idea though. :techman:

That way you could have an aged, badass, wise-cracking, cigar smoking Resistance hero, and a CGIed young Terminator. Maybe the story of how they capture the Terminator to protect John in T2. A fight scene between old Arnold and young Arnold, I'd pay to see that.

But I'd pay a lot more for Arnold Schwarzenegger in The Expendables 2.

I saw what you did there.

I agree--it wasn't a bad concept. Just bad execution.

Unfortunately, commerce is their goal in Hollywood--not art.

The Terminator is a cool concept for an Outer Limits/Twilight Zone episode that somehow got stretched out to four movies, two seasons of a TV show, and 20 books. The fact that Terminator 2 ended up a classic in its own right is a minor miracle -- I really don't know why they continue trying to milk this pretty thin concept like it has the potential to produce another great movie.

I don't think 'great movie' is the aim. It's about money. Terminator is a relatively popular franchise, and they want to get every bit of money out of the audience/fans that they can.

As for Arnold, I agree with the other posters that he should play a human that the Terminator was modeled after. But not the awful Sgt. Candy. I would rather see Arnold portray a guy like Dieter von Rossbach from some of the Terminator models.

It sucks that Salvation was such a misfire. I really wanted to see the Future War. Maybe they'll continue that storyline, but something tells me they're going back to the time travel. I read that McG was going back to the time travel for Terminator 5 anyway, perhaps as a reaction to Salvation's less than stellar impact. I don't know if McG will play any role in this Arnold-T5 movie though.

Meh ... I'll probably see the film ... but my patience for the franchise is starting to wear pretty thin.

Simple. If you're meh about it, don't watch it.
Or do watch it. I just won't be one of those people lining up for a midnight release or first weekend showing. I might even wait until its DVD/BR release. Point is, after the last two subpar offerings the idea of a new film isn't especially thrilling -- not even with the return of Ahnuld.

Does anyone queue all night for a Terminator movie? I sincerely doubt it.

I can't imagine queuing for any movie.

I would probably watch this, just because of Arnie. I doubt it can capture any of the magic of the first 2, although if it's at least a real attempt at making a true Terminator movie, then I'll give it a fair chance.
I actually enjoyed T3. It was unnecessary, and just a lesser copy of T2, but it was still a passable movie that felt like a Terminator movie. Even if this movie is only as good as that, I'd be happy enough. I'm setting the bar low enough to give them a fighting chance!

The underlying idea was pretty all right.

But addressed to all: T3 rocked socks, damn it. I really don't understand why it was disliked.

I bought T3 as a blind-buy figuring it had to be good since it was the Terminator and Arnie was in it. Halfway through I wanted my money back.

My problem with T3 is that it's more like a parody of T2 at times. And that the Terminatrix is acting VERY stupid, totally inferior to the T-1000. And that they got Skynet "wrong". And that John Connor is a pussy wimp.

All the movies are watchable, but none of them were really needed. It's why I loved the first season of the show. They ignored T3 and actually actually made sense. I wish the show did better.
They did hint that the events in the third movie happened, but in another timeline.

I was captivated by the show at first, but eventually lost interest. A constant terminator presence and threats every week made them seem less threatening.

I wish you hadn't mentioned Blade Runner and Terminator in the same sentence. :/

I really enjoyed T3. I'm not sure why it gets so much flak. It didn't do anything really novel with the franchise but it was a lot of fun and the ending really sold it. I think some people don't like it because it basically pulls the rug out from under the end of T2, which is a fair criticism, but I try to take each film as its own entity.

Salvation had some good idea but the narrative structure was bizarre and senseless. It was supposed to be about Marcus Wright, but getting Bale as Connor reshaped the whole story and turned it into something else entirely. I think it could've worked if it was meant to be mostly about Wright, mostly about Connor, or mostly about Reese, but trying to make it about all three of them just made for a muddled mess. Reese was the only one that seemed like a real character, and his significance to the story was primarily as a plot device! Connor was bland and uninteresting, as a character, and Marcus just seemed confused through the whole movie.

Terminator is one of the coolest science fiction movies since Star Wars, and certainly one of the best genre movies of its decade (and what a decade that was, for movies in general!). It's never struck me as a particularly interesting basis for a series of movies - my "meh" reaction to the second (vastly more popular, I gather) film left me with no motivation to follow the latter versions.
