Which version of her is your favourite? I'm placing this thread here because it's focused on the TOS derived ships and not the entire franchise.

Personally I think the TMP refit is the most technically convincing version of the ship, but in my heart the TOS E will always remain the most dynamic. When I hear Star Trek's music and the familiar fanfare she's the one that usually comes to mind.

I always think the TMP refit looks great until I see it sitting side-by-side with the original. Then it seems like an over-designed piece of garbage akin to John Eaves Enterprise-E.

*I voted 'Kirk era'.

TMP Refit/NCC 1701-A (Was there any difference?)

The TOS Enterprise was perfected in the 1979 version. No other version has improved on this design.

TMP Refit/NCC 1701-A (Was there any difference?)
Although few might notice it the filming miniature was painted differently and the interiors were different. The most obvious was the bridge (TFF $ TUC), but the other big difference was the hangar facilities (TFF). The 1701A was also never as well photographed as the TMP refit. I think the 1701A also lost the pearlescent hull finish in the repainting.

I'd say the TMP Enterprise was the most beautiful. A perfectly elegant machine. I know there are some minute differences with the 1701A, but they are meaningless in my eyes: they are obviously the same ship.

I have warm feelings for the TOS Enterprise (all three: series and pilots), but aesthetically I don't find it flawless. The nacelle struts in particular look awkward, and the neck looks weird. YMMV, obviously.

The Abrams' version is not as elegant or smooth as the TMP Enterprise, but it project a feeling of raw power that I find very attractive. Not my favourite, but a beautiful ship in her own right.

ILM ruined the pain job when they took over effects. The sprayed the perfect and gorgeous Trumbull - Apogee paint with matte coating. THey say becuase there would have been too much reflection in the Nebula scenes. The relections would have been gorgeous just like in the Vger cloud. Basically ILM dumbed it down and ruined it (a-holes)

I went with the Kirk era, but theTMP refit was a really, really close second. I also like the Cage era, particularly the interiors. the WNMHGB era was fine too, the A was ok but kust didn't seem as advanced, strange as that may seem, as the earlier ship.

JJ's dinghy of suckitude is not fit to even be mentioned in the same paragraph, and (as you may notice) wasn't.

Although the tv-version is a classic, the TMP-refit is the most beautifull of the Constitution versions.

The JJverse Enterprise is also a gorgeus ship if you ask me.

ForTMP, the ship was shot against a black background, so the paint job wasn't an problem.

Enter ILM. Put that same pearlescent paint job against a bluescreen, however, and suddenly it looks like there are jagged holes all over the ship.

They had to alter it, at least somewhat.

jjprise is clearly the best!

Yes it is! :bolian:

TMP. I grew up with her and she's my favorite. (Technically I grew up with the A as my first Trek in the theatre was TSFS, but I do agree that the original refit was photographed much better, particularly in TMP.)

That's not to say I don't appreciate the originals (pilot or series) or even the JJPrise (to a lesser degree), but the refit holds a special place in my heart.

Guess I should clarify a bit... was early when I first posted this.

I actually love the shape of both the refit and the Enterprise-E, it's the detailing where it all falls apart for me. The over-detailing actually makes them seem less advanced than The Original Series version.

For me the Kirk-era connie is the best. Beyond that I am rather intrigued with the Pike-era/Cage Enterprise, something I would have loved to have seen more of. The movie refit was OK and the later versions of it, or Enterprise-A, I liked very much. The idea of two turbo-lifts to the bridge was something that should have always been in place.

While this may rankle a few of you, I begrudgingly grew to accept the Enterprise-D, an awkward looking troll of a ship, IMO, but think that the JJ Abrams Enterprise looks ridiculously bulbous and borderline hideous....beyond the saucer section.

I do very much like the NX-01 Enterprise......even if in a few ways they missed the mark (but not by much) on a few of the sets and the uniforms.

Agreed. But TOS-Ent is still my "favorite." Heart over head here.

The Kirk-era (series) version. It's the one we used for almost three years on a weekly basis. I think it's the best designed, showcased, and preferable.

I refuse to vote because I like them all. I wish people wouldn't get so extreme as to hate something that basically looks the same just because its not originally what was seen. I mean this is what non-fans laugh about. If anyone is splitting hairs to the point that they hate the "Cage" version vs the series version, they really need psychological help! Even the T09 version has the same basic shape and less detailing that some of the STNG era ships. You show the TMP era E-prise next to it, they'll prob say they're basically the same ship!

My favorite Enterprise out of all these wonderful designs is the Ambassador Class Enterprise-C. It just combines the best of the STNG ship with the best of the TMP era although if we were to see a real "hero" CGI model for any future appearances, I think it could be tweaked, since it wasn't really designed to bear close scrutiny.
