Damon Lindelof's Birthday - FB comments give fanbase a black eye

As much as CRA doesn't like JJTrek, I really don't see him as the type to care enough about Damon to blast his FB with hate.

Seems a bit disengenuous, even if it is meant in good humor.

My bad. I thought Aragorn meant the actual character "Captain Robert April". I still think that would be funny.

The Chase Masterson thread was hilarious. And nobody learned the lesson, not even the moderators.

I vaguely remember that thread. Weren't they basically saying she wasn't attractive or talented or something, and then she showed up posting? I love it when they actually show up.

isn't all this hand-wringing a little over the top? This is the internet, where anonymity brings strength.

If you go online, especially if you're even a moderate celebrity, you should have a thick skin.

Lindelof should remember Trekkies aren't the craziest people out there. No, that honor forever belongs to the GINO crowd, the Tea Party of sci fi fandom! :rommie:

This kind of behavior is, of course, not the only reason the Prime Universe will never be seen again, but it is my favorite reason.

This kind of behavior has no bearing on why the Prime Universe will never be seen again. The fact that CBS/Paramount wasn't making enough money is why the Prime Universe will never be seen again.

If anything, lunatic fans are seen as a bonus. They are their own self-perpetuating PR machine, and let's face it, nobody really changes anyone else's opinion on the internet, so the content of the opinions is entirely irrelevant.

However, I do hope people like Lindelof know to invest in good home security systems.

That reminds me of Chris Pine's comment on SNL, where they were throwing rocks at his window and scratching the glass because they weren't throwing them hard enough.

I'd be surprised if he was even aware of the comments, one way or the other. He's got more important things to do that worrying about detractors or pleasing his fans.

I would say the "Galactica In Name Only" group were way, way over the top, your baseless TEA Party comparison aside - the GINO crowd better fit this mold.

Okay, I wasn't wild about Temis' swipe at another fan group and neither did I think very highly of the Tea Party mention, even used as a figure of speech, but do you seriously think that posting a link to a random selection of photos from years-old nutty lefty rallies constitutes any sort of a meaningful or appropriate reply in this forum?
(Hint: answer is "no")

Now, there's one thing I've requested of everyone posting in this forum—whether directly or generally—and requested on more than a handful of occasions. That request has always essentially been this:
Please refrain from bringing politics into the Trek XI forum and into discussions being conducted therein, unless they can be demonstrated to have some direct bearing upon story elements in the movie(s) or other Trek stories tangentially related to the movie(s) in some way.
Temis' remark doesn't fit into that box and neither does your reply, so here's the reminder again: Don't do that, okay? Please. Leave politics in the forums appropriate to politics.

Looking back over this thread as a whole, I can't help coming to the conclusion that its most useful purpose (such as there was) has already been served. I see some other stuff creeping in that's not so useful, so I'll just draw the finish line here.
