Geoff Johns must tear what remains out of his hair when he goes about writing these episodes. His first question must be "How the fuck do I make this work with what they've done?" It must've been even harder with this episode.

I'm completely relaxed. Just beginning to grow tired of bitching about this show...lol.

Don't believe any of it, I have to disagree with everyone in this thread, I thought this was a great episode. It in fact did move Clark forward in his journey, especially in the dual-identity department. Yes, this needed to happen many seasons ago, but better late than never. I liked this episode, despite the negativity in this thread. I will grade it "The Blur (good)"

I recommend watching it.

Just finished watching it and enjoyed it! There were tons of comic book references. Nice Dan Garrett nod (he was the Silver Age Blue Beetle) Sebastian Spence as Ted Kord!!! Ron Troupe cameo (is that the first time we've seen him) Steve Lombard reference. Cat of course (Jet will like the small but vocal fan base reference lol). I can't believe while most of you guys were making fun of the episode you guys missed all the good stuff!

Skeets being a headpiece sucked. Loved the Legion reference and Micheal's origin. I also really enjoyed Jaime Reyes, I'm almost sold on a "Blue Beetle" spin off and the armor wasn't that bad looking. A little Iron Man like yes but not atrocious. All of that being said, it's extremely frustrating where this episode aired. I really think this would have been better set mid-season where it was originally meant to be.

He's been in town for a couple of days and he's already made enough of a name for himself to get a key to the city?

To be fair, they explained that. Ted Kord pulled strings to make it happen--in exchange for Booster helping him find the Scarab.

A fun episode. I never thought I'd see Booster or Blue Beetle in live-action, which I've been looking forward to. (I've had a soft spot for Jaime ever since novelizing his origin years ago.)

Too bad we can't squeeze in Lori Lemaris or the Spectre before the finale . . ..

I liked the episode. While Clark was getting a necessary personality downgrade, I thought his words of wisdom to Booster sounded more like the real Superman -- the one we've been waiting all season to see.

Loved all the refrences and the nod to the comic book version of Booster on the t-shirts. Glad that Ted Kord is alive in this reality. (Now, if only the Question would turn up alive and well...)

All of this glasses, and bumbling Clark stuff has simply come too late in the series. I don't really buy it and feels extremely forced. I did like the advice Clark gave Booster, it did sound Superman like.

No one has commented on the directing so far...I thought Tom did a pretty good job to be honest. This must've been a tough episode to direct being such a highly anticipated one (promoted since last summer). I didn't really have any problem with the directing.

Also I had to laugh at Clark wearing that silly shirt and jacket underneath his clothes. I can buy him wearing his suit under their but the jacket? WTF.

Yeah, wearing a jacket under the suit is silly. What's funny is that we barely see Clark in the "greaser" uniform for more than a few moments. He still does a lot of his business in his regular clothes.

Kind of like how we've barely seen Oliver dressed as the Green Arrow this season...maybe last season too.

I'm surprised that a lot of you didn't like this episode. I thought it was really good, one of the best they've done so far. Here's my rundown of random thoughts and observations...

- I went in spoiler free, so all I knew was that Booster Gold would be in it. Didn't read news or see promos or anything. I had no expectations outside of looking forward to Booster Gold. Well, that's not entirely true. I expected to see Skeets and wondered what he'd look like and was a bit disappointed, but not surprised, that he was just an earpiece.

- I actually got a double dose of Booster Gold tonight. He was also in an episode of Batman: The Brave and the Bold just before Smallville.

- I didn't expect to see Jaime Reyes or the Blue Beetle. That was quite a surprise.

- Eric Martsolf did a fantastic job playing Booster Gold. Never heard of him. Looks like he's a soap actor. I thought he looked like someone, but not Greg Kinnear. Loved the endorsements on the suit too. I'd say more, but his performance speaks for itself, especially the turnaround at the end.

- Loved the cartoon Booster Gold on the shirts.

- Speaking of shirts, why did Clark rip open his shirt at the end when he was with Lois? What was the point of that? It was an odd thing to do.

- It was nice that they brought back the glasses and started moving forward with the secret identity issue. Somehow though, I don't like what Lois and Clark are getting themselves into. Having to live a life as a fake Clark won't be easy. This show makes it look like a harship in a way that no other incarnation of Superman has. And yes, I agree that it was better on Lois & Clark where Clark got to be himself. That said, yeah, no one should buy this new Clark and think that Superman is a whole new person unless Superman gets a new look that's enough of a departure from Clark's old look so that the conceit is at least a bit plausible. Oh, and Welling didn't pull off the bumbling Clark bit as well as Reeve or Routh did.

Keri Lynn Pratt is so adorable.
She is ridiculously cute.
That she is. I was happy to see her.

It was originally titled "Blue and Gold" too.
That title is more than one word. It wouldn't fly. Of course, Clark isn't flying either, so... I dunno.

Now we just need Firestorm. :techman:
Seeing Firestorm would have been fantastic, the Ronnie Raymond/Professor Martin Stein version of course. I wonder how they'd do the fire hair though.

This is Smallville. The entire encounter will take one short scene where Clark acts emo, shoves Darkseid, and defeats him thusly. Then they move on like nothing happened.
I totally forgot about Darkseid again.

and then christian bale guest stars as bruce wyane.
I thought about Christian Bale being Bruce Wayne in the Smallville universe as a bit of a joke to myself.

Of course, a new hero pops up and Clark gets super jealous of someone moving in on his turf.
As I said many times before, what I like about Superman from Lois & Clark is that when he was confronted with the same issue, a new hero in town, he basically said... "I could use all the help I can get."

Attack of the bad CGI.
Yeah, the Blue Beetle transformation was pretty obvious, but it wasn't as bad as Booster Gold shrinking a little as he ran and took off.

The costumes are actually pretty decent for Smallville.
Yeah, they are. They're Hancock quality. That's what Booster Gold's outfit reminded me of.

God, she's probably like half my age but that T-Mobile girl knocks me out.

T-Mobile Girl is, indeed, a knock-out.
Now I'm interested. Gonna go look her up if I can.

I never thought I'd see Booster or Blue Beetle in live-action, which I've been looking forward to.
Say what you want about Smallville, but one thing the show has given us are a lot of heroes that wouldn't ordinarily get a shot at live-action.

Too bad we can't squeeze in Lori Lemaris or the Spectre before the finale . . ..
What's really too bad is that we never got to see Bruce or Diana. Oh well.

Just watched it. Excellent.

I enjoyed this ep alot. It wasn't without flaws but this is Smallville.

Cat Grant. :adore:

@AY yeah I was disappointed that Skeets was just a headset. :sigh:

Yeah, but if we'd gotten the effects for Skeets floating around, the show would have to cut back somewhere else. Booster's costume probably would have been a yellow hoodie and jeans.

Lex promo

(snip)

Rosenbaum's wearing a bald cap
Obviouslywhoever put that together never saw "Onyx".

I think the real problem is probably where they aired it. If they'd aired the episode when it was originally scheduled in the middle of the season it wouldn't have been so bitched about. Both "Legion" and "Absolute Justice" were mid season episodes. This airing so close to the finale probably hurt it.
Nail. Head.

Had this episode aired in, say, season 8, I probably would have given it a super.

As it is, it's kinda meh.

I liked it. I'm a Booster Gold fan and I own Booster Gold #1-6. Booster saves Ronald Reagan and George Bush Sr(funny). He also interacts with Superman pretty early on(The cover art is misleading on that one). Brainiac 5 and Ultraman travel back in time to apprehend Booster for his theft of the gear from the 25th century museum which happens to include a Brainiac 5 forcefield belt. Skeets was just a security robot that was Booster's buddy. It has been so long since I read the first issue I don't recall if Superman is in that one.

Who is that Kord guy in the comics? Blue Beetle really reminds me of the computer programmer guy from Supernova(James Spader is the star).

Ted Kord was Blue Beetle in the comics. He had no scarab but was just a great scientist and superbly trained athlete, well until he got fat. Dan Garret was the first Blue Beetle and he had the scarab just like Jamie Reyes although it did not fuse to his spine.
I think I would enjoy a Booster spin off with Jamie and Kord. Blue and Gold on the CW!!

I gave this an Excellent. Yeah the quickie transformation to nerdy Clark Kent strained credibility but what doesn't when it comes to comic books? Welling did a great job with the clumsy moments. The guy playing Booster was perfect, nicely done there. And they are setting up the anticipation for the big Superman reveal to the public in the finale.

For those complaining that this all should have happened sooner, you're wrong. Once he is Superman this show is technically supposed to be over. So they have to drag out the pre-Superman stuff. And each year the CW kept adding another season which meant dragging it out even more. And even though this was the Last Season, I wonder if they were still writing the show with the caveat that they might get one more season sprung on them.
The show has to end with Clark or the Blur becoming Superman so we were never going to see big blue in action much less flying.
