Dragon Con 2011

I never see any Conventions for stargate and star trek, here in georgia. I'd go out of my way more for that, than something that doesn't even have it.

I gave up on the big Cons when they started to look like crowd scenes from Solyent Green. No fun, just aggravation.

I've only been to one con so i highly doubt i can actually say anything about it, but for me, the crowds were great fun. Seeing all of the people in costume was part of the fun for me, really.

^Crowds are fine. I'm talking about the last Dragoncon I went to looking like boarding time on a Japanese subway at times.

I've been going for five or six years, and plan to go again this year. I always have a great time. (2008 and 2009 were the best, but those were for reasons not entirely related to the con...)

I've only ever been to one con and that was Starfest 09 in Denver. And i had an absolute BLAST!

Technically, that's not quite true - we met at the 2006 Worldcon. Just because you didn't actually have a membership, and we spent the whole evening in the restaurant, doesn't mean you weren't at the con. :p

Great now it sounds like we were on a date. :p

And i totally forgot about that! I count it in my memories as a meet up and not a con. My bad. :)

KJ, as with others, I've been going to Dragon*Con for a few years now, and it's every bit as fun as you've been led to believe. It starts Thursday afternoon, ends Monday afternoon, and is pretty much 24 hours a day in between.

No matter what your interest is, you'll find it there. Interested in sitcoms of the 60s? There's a track for that. British fantasy literature? There's a track for that. Independent films? Paranormal (ghost hunting)? and on and on and on. It's like 50 conventions happening all at the same time in the same place.

You're in Georgia ... Where in Georgia? Is it Atlanta, or somewhere near?

I haven't been to DragonCon since 2005 but was just today checking out their guest list page. It says Shatner and Nimoy are coming. If that stays unchanged then I'm going.

It's the 25th Dragon*Con. They also have Kate Mulgrew. The rumor I've been hearing is that they will be having the Captains from all the Trek series, even Enterprise. They've all been at D*C at one time or another, but not as a group.

^^^^
Now that makes it a solid yes. Especially if a quality picture dealer gets a package together for a pic with all of them!!

Dallas. So I am about 45 minutes away.

Alrighty, I took a look and there is no Greyhound stop in Dallas, nor is there any Metro Area Transit anywhere close to you.

Google maps show you're about 33 miles from the convention, and you're really not out of the way for anyone coming from north/northwest who is driving down. You could find a ride easily.

If you don't have a Live Journal yet, I'd suggest you sign up for an account (it can be done for free), and then join the group found at http://dragoncon.livejournal.com ... There are in excess of 4,500 people in that group, and I see posts all the time about ride-sharing to and from the con. Plus, being about 30 miles away, it shouldn't be an issue.

There's another one that is, I believe, http://dragonconrooms.livejournal.com ... This group is for people who are looking to share a room at one of the host hotels. The room rate is around 200 a night at one of the host hotels. If you don't mind sharing with one (or more) other people, you can cut that down significantly. I've seen people who have two people in each of two beds, another on a cot, and two or three people in sleeping bags on the floor, all sharing, making it around 25 a night per person.

It can be done for a reasonable price, is what I'm saying.

If they all do that then there had better be video of it, I'm all the way across the country and I'll be almost eight months pregnant there's no way I'm going this year.

Hence why I'm bribing my little sister to go to Las Vegas for me.

And weren't Kate Mulgrew and Sir Patrick supposed to do a panel together back in '09?
