Roberto Orci Offers Star Trek 2 Update

OGAM was directed by a professional, had professional actors, crew, designers, etc. There is no excuse for how awful it was.

I enjoyed the trailers very much. I bought the cast photo online which enabled me to score the "free" DVD through the mail. I watched it, grinned at a few casting choices, grimaced at some of the costuming, but was essentially disengaged by the whole thing. The Stonn/Uhura thing was just bizarre. I think I'd heard some spoilers, but it really just came out of left field.

As a participant in the first "Starship Exeter", I can certainly understand the excitement OGAM would have generated for those closely involved with the production, but when I hear ST fans acclaim it as being better that various canonical STs, I find myself just shaking my head.

As a fan film, it's a very good fan film but, as number6 pointed out, it was made by pros. OGAM reminds me more of that rare breed of ST fanzine writer of the early 80s who, rather than photocopy or offset print their zine like everyone else, went to a vanity press agency instead - and spent thousands of dollars making their little fan story look like a real paperback novel published by Pocket Books.

Did they also have a professional scriptwriter, cinematographer and editor? If you don't have those, you could also have oscar winning actors and it would be shit. But then again, it can also be crap with solely oscar winning professionals in every position.

A lot of people involved with OGAM were professionals in their field. Can't say who did what, but none of this made the film watchable. The fact that professionals were heavily involved holds this pile of poo to a higher standard than other fan productions, produced and conceived wholly by amateurs.

OGAM=crap no matter how you slice it. It's simply more insulting to this fan to see Trek actors so desperate to put on the space suits one more time to be involved with this.

But do you actually know an amateur fan film that's better than OGAM with the same length and production value?

Phase II's Blood and Fire and Starship Exeter's latest effort are pretty damned solid.. They may not have the same length, but the writing and production values easily blow OGAM away by a country mile. OGAM was a bigger suckfest than a Jenna Jameson film, and not as pretty.

I'm already like 6 minutes into this and I just have one question.

What year is this made? It can't be 2008 like the video info is saying. The graphic rendering is like bad.... unless it's youtube being stupid.

[snip]

Someone also doesn't know how to do shaky camera. I'm still giving it a chance. If it starts to get ridic 15 - 20 mintues in, I'm bailing on it. All this talk has driven me to watch it now.

edit: lol, nvm then this is already getting ridiculous. Whoever said this was like infinite times better than XI is on crack.

It just starts off stupid and goes downhill from there. Save yourself and your brain. Watch something intellectually challenging, like COPS.

Hahahahaaaaaa oh man i lol'd irl

Well, at least the movie or whatever did a good thing and got rid of Neelix... or his actor... or the whatever. I think. That was the worst space station implosion ever.

By the looks of it, it was only the actors. I know Tim Russ supposedly directed too, but I think he did a terrible job of it. So many of the shots were just incredibly poorly framed and otherwise decent actors came off as really cheesy.

There was really nothing all that professional about it.

Maybe because they weren't getting paid there wasn't any proper motivation?

Right. Three things I feel the need to state, for the record.

1. I would work for nachos. I'd bargain for nachos and cheese dip, but I'd settle for the nachos if it came down to that.

2. OGAM has Chase Masterson as a green Orion. This is enough to qualify it as High Art in my eyes.

3. Diddling Dingos is nothing to joke about. That be some grim, serious business there.

better now.
;)

I'm on part ii (amazed that i've made it this far) and its just... reeks of backyard shed production. do they not have multiple cameras or heard of angles? its close up after close up after close up. no wide shots, no pans, nothing...

whoever was DP on this needs to be shot in the face.

vulcan exploded. i guess everyone has it out for destroying the planet.

idegi tbqh, how some ocnsider this to be "far superior" than xi. we take charlie x, have him come back after being pissed off for 40 years, goes back in time, kills kirks mom and in succession blows up vulcan and creates some "mirror universe"

..... this plot comes straight out of a fanfic.

eh, its mildly entertaining in a " wow this is bad "

I believe they had to be paid, probably because of Union rules. Koenig or Russ or someone said this in an interview. The comment was something like "I don't like to call it a fan film, all actors are paid professionally, etc."

Then they wasted their money.
