Fall Anime 2010

lol - okay, I may still give it a go and if it is so bad it's good maybe I'll just enjoy it for that.
It's right along your alley. I think you said you liked 00 and Macross F. Geass is 00, but much more dynamic and with stronger characterization.
00 and MacF aren't bad in that way though. I dunno, maybe I'm predisposed to hate Geass.

There's always the MacF movies. The first one came out a while ago.

Having finally gotten a chance to see Tiger and Bunny's second episode, I think that this show could be a massive success if imported, dubbed, and given a well advertised release over here. Unless the writers/animators go off the rails in the next few episodes and tons of fanservice and random weirdness, they've got a rather unique superhero show that can appeal to a wider audience than most other anime.
Hah, unrelated but I remember when people said that of Heroman... mostly because of the Stan Lee connection.

Well, I've been going strong as usual. Nobody really missed much last season other than, Madoka Magika and Infinite Stratos.

This season I plan on giving a few shows a shot:

Blue Exorcist
Deadman Wonderland
Stein's Gate
The World God Only Knows II

While I wouldn't call Code Geass a fine work, I did find it very entertaining most of the time with its absurd theatrics.

I liked code geass quite a bit. The second season got a bit off the wall though. As for this season there really isn't anything that I want to see. Right now I'm going through whatever decent stuff I've missed or didn't finish over the last three years

So, just out of curiosity, what would you guys list as your top 5 anime of all time? Movies, OVAs, series, doesn't matter - just your favorite 5.

Haruhi (all of it)
Evangelion (all of it)
Full Metal Panic (all of it)
Macross F
Ghost in the Shell SAC

Honorable mentions to saikano, clannad, and kannon

Tough to leave out some such as Claymore, Aria, and Welcome to the NHK but I'll go with:

Genshiken
GitSAC
Maria-sama ga Miteru
Spice and Wolf
The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya

Not going to claim they're necessarily among the greatest (although I think a couple of them are), but they're favourites of mine.

Aria (the Animation, the Natural, the Origination)
Planetes
Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood
Evangelion
Genshiken

Honourable mention: the noitanimA block, The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, Satoshi Kon's movies, the Ghibli movies, Mai Mai Miracle.

Well, there we go, that list should keep me busy for a bit. Except for you, clint_g. Apparently our tastes are far too similar and I've seen all of your top ones except for your number 1 (and they're all fairly fantastic, too).

1. Macross saga (not 7)
2. Gundam saga (not all of it, but a lot of it)
3. Cowboy Bebop
4. GitS: SAC
5. toss up between Bubblegum Crisis and Lodoss OVA

You might want to try a non scifi show sometime. Comedies would be the easiest way to dip your feet into something different and Haruhi isn't a bad choice.

Sora no Woto might be a good pick, if you just watch episode 1, 7 and 13. It has a good mix of slice of life/mono no aware and action.

I don't watch enough to make a list, which would be moot because I tend to like or hate everything based on it's individual merits, that said I just finished FMA Brotherhood and Lucky Star, and I'm wondering what to get next, the 08th MS team would be nice if BB has it, though after the slow, calm pace of Lucky Star maybe something like Haruhi or Azumanga Daioh, other than that I'm piecing together Tenchi Universe bit by bit from used DVD bins

I have tried non-sci-fi in the past and I've liked them enough, just not enough to make a top 5. Maison Ikkoku, Tenchi, Ranma, Kimagure Orange Road, This is Greenwood, Urusei Yatsura, and many more. All fine, but also all pretty ancient. I did also recently try Noir which was pretty cool, but not top 5.

Thanks for the additional suggestions.

haruhi might still work for you since it still has a very uniqueda and important sci-fi twist. I highly suggest you watch out. Just make sure you let us know when you hit the second season so that we can warn you about some stuff

Personally, if you're still looking for suggestions I would recommend these.

And if you're looking for new slice of life stuff, Hanasaku Iroha and "Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae o Bokutachi wa Mada Shiranai" (yep, that's its title) from this season look like big winners.

Yeah, the title of that is a beast. It translates to something like: We Still Don't know the Name of the Flower We Saw That Day. I think the translation is even longer than the actual title.:guffaw:

Why couldn't they just have called it Unknown Flower or something and be done with it? :scream:

The Japanese do have a penchant for bad title writing though. For instance if you read the episode titles of most of those shounen shows like Dragonball Z, or Bleeach you don't have to even watch the episode because it tells you everything that happens in it including spoilers, like who dies. :shifty:

It's just that one, which is why everyone just calls it AnoHana and leaves it at that. I'm sure it's poetic or something though.

Not exactly, this season we also have:
Ore Tachi ni Tsubasa wa Ni
Hoshizora e Kakaru Hashi
Denpa Onna to Seishun Otoko

...which are also kinda long.
