Shame they haven't put those TJ flashbacks on the DVD. We'll probably never get to see them now :(

What TJ flashbacks?

Anyway, I actually like the cover image. Much better than what was on the season 1 sets.

After all the effort to shift the Stargate franchise into shooting in HD, they've managed to release a surprisingly small number of episodes on home video in the format. That's too bad, though I probably wouldn't (re)buy them anyway, unless they were very cheap.

Um, shooting in HD digital has nothing to do with wanting to sell the show in a HD format, it's just much cheaper and easier. 35mm film captures a much higher resolution than digital HD cameras do.

I'm well aware of the resolution of celluloid and the comparative cost of HD video, thanks. When the franchise shifted to shooting in HD, it also shifted to broadcasting in HD. Previous seasons had been shot in both 16mm and 35mm, if I'm not mistaken, but were neither broadcast nor edited in high definition. When the shows shifted to shooting in HD, they also shifted to selling the show in HD, at least on television.

When it came to home video, however, both SG-1 and SGA continued to release their episodes on DVD, in standard def. Outside of the two SG-1 DVD movies, the two-episode release of "Rising" and "Enemy at the Gates," and the first season of Stargate Universe, all we have are standard def releases. Which, again, is a shame, considering the shift to HD meant the shows were ready-made for the Blu-Ray format.

On the plus side, they aren't releasin' the second season in volumes like they did the first season.

Truth.

I just want a blu-ray release. The first season looked pretty great. Not that I'd expect the DVDs to look bad, just, y'know, kind of a step down...

Amazon.co.uk has a blu-ray release listed for season 2. Worst comes to worse you may need to import it, but at least it will be available somewhere. And hopefully it will have Region A coding too.

true enough... importing stuff is kind of expensive, though. oh well. not the end of the world if i settle for dvd.

Yeah, but Caprica didn't get a Blu-Ray release anywhere. If Stargate Universe is being released on Blu-Ray somewhere, it will probably end up on Blu-Ray in North America. Probably.
