Wonder Woman(NBC) *Spoilers!*

^ One thing this Wonder Woman does have above Lynda Carter's Wonder Woman is the lack of granny underwear. :p

My granny never wore underwear like this:

I hope.

Carter's costume fits the description of Granny underwear

Any high cut underwear with a high elastic waistband that comes up to at least your belly button is considered Granny pants

What she wore back then is now categorized as being granny pants

I think the costume looks surprisingly great (I hadn't seen the original--and awful--costume before today), though I agree with Christopher that some shoulder straps would probably be a good idea.

I want to see what it's like for Wonder Woman to kick some ass. I don't want her to fly, I don't exactly care what she wears while kicking it. I want her to be complex, feminine, tender, thoughtful, skilled, lie-detecting, able to put Mike Tyson in the hospital with a single punch, bullet-deflecting, spinning crescent kick crime-fighting super-heroine. If the new show can depict that, then thumbs up from me.

I was rather surprised to see that Lynda Carter did nudity early in her career. It doesn't suit the image that she projected later, at all.

Are you thinking of the Bobby Jo film? I have come across clips online and they were about as exciting as the Janet Jackson nipple slip. Perhaps revealing for the 70's, but hardly anything to be surprised at.

Do we know for certain that the costume has been changed? OK the switch from blue to red boots is certainly a good thing, but seeing as this is an action scene, and half the shots are of a stunt woman, it's possible that the non shiny pants are to give better movement, and for long shots only.

OK, maybe I'm alone in this but I liked the shiny pants.

I didn't see any shots that were definitely of a stuntwoman.

And I think it's worth keeping in mind that it's an established plot point in the pilot script that Diana has changed her costume at least once since starting her career as Wonder Woman. So we probably shouldn't assume that she'll be limited to only one unchanging costume in the show. She might have a variety of different costumes for different occasions, or experiment with different variations over time (which would be a handy way for the producers to justify their own refinements of her costume).

I'm sure it's just me, but I like the looks of the stuntwomen doing these things more than a lot of the lead actors. Athletic women are more attractive IMAO.

Both look good. The red go-go boots are a bit much, though.

I've got to be honest, judging from these new pictures, I say the costume looks much better than in that earlier picture. The boots are red and the leggings are a darker blue, more like the touched up version of the official publicity shot that someone did.

It just boggles my mind that anyone thinks this costume or, especially, this actress, looks better than the Lynda Carter version. I mean it. I'm stupefied. It's as if we have absolutely no common frame of reference.

We don't, dear, since the rest of us are not stuck perpetually in the late 1970s. And I don't recall anyone saying Palicki looks better than Carter, just that she's is shaping up to be a viable contemporary portrayal of Wonder Woman.

Sensible heels!

...It's kinda tragic how happy I am about that.

 :techman:

I am with you, my sisters! Palicki is still a little skinny for my tastes in terms of an Amazon, but she's tall and she's tough so at least the producers have that much of a clue.

No doubt she's running because Adrianne Palicki ran track in high school and they want to show off her skills.

One thing I know for sure is she can act.

Absolutely. Her being in the title role has seriously changed my attitude about a project I thought was sure to be a joke.

I don't think she's too skinny. Genuinely strong, athletic people are often more wiry than bulging.

And I agree that Lynda Carter should definitely not be the sole standard for comparison here. Wonder Woman is a character who's been continuously published in comic books since 1940. Carter only played her for three years, decades ago. Her show was a decent interpretation for its day, but it would be ridiculous to treat it as the definitive incarnation of Wonder Woman.

If this series is successful...meaning making on the air and having more than one season...ideally 22 eps...then it will be like Smallville was and being Wonder Woman to a new generation and being alot of people's first exposer to the character...and I am all for that. :)

[edit] Smallville got alot of people into Superman who normally don't pay attention to comics...hopefully this show will do the same for Wonder Woman.

I wouldn't be particularly happy with bulging either - I'm just speaking towards Hollywood's general standards of femininity these days, which Palicki falls squarely into. It's a very narrow paradigm. Don't get me wrong, I think so far she is projecting athleticism - but I met her once. Trust me, she's quite slim. But then I wouldn't expect anything else from a woman cast in the lead role of a superhero tv series. At least they did get someone who can act and who has some actual athletic skills. Honestly unlike Carter who was so painfully 70s thin that she barely had a muscle to make while supposedly lifting a car.

Wonder Woman has consistently been portrayed since her creation as beautiful and voluptuous. Carter was both. This girl is reasonably attractive (though no beauty) and by no means voluptuous. She looks like a college athlete with implants. That just isn't Wonder Woman.
