Multiple Crises on Earth

Whoever is in charge of this world ending business, please postpone armageddon until mid October 2011, k thx
No, I wanna see the new Superman Movie and TDK:Rises first, then we can all die.

I have business until April 17, 2100. You can die then.

Well, the world can die then, you can die whenever you feel like it.:bolian:

And I want to see those movies (as well as the next Star Trek) too.

To quote Bill Maher:

If the world does come to an end here, or wherever, or if it limps into the future, decimated by the effects of religion-inspired nuclear terrorism, let's remember what the real problem was. We learned how to precipitate mass death before we got past the neurological disorder of wishing for it. That's it. Grow up or die.

15 cool points for using a Bill Maher qoute.
ShamelessMcBundy!

Bill Maher really affirmed my belief in non-religion.

I live in Christchurch, New Zealand. Basically, our CBD is totaled. 100s are dead. Christchurch suburbia has been dealt a pretty horrific blow east side. We're still without drinking water and sewerage is screwed. The roads are a laugh - everyone looks half-pissed driving down them swerving the raises and dips.

So far as end of the world scenarios? What a load of crap. Here, people climb on board the bandwagon of total destruction. As if other cities have never been leveled. What arrogance. If this happened in a 3rd world country I wouldn't hear the same mantra.

The events of the past few months have given me an appreciation for the indiscriminate reality of nature. The way - humbling as it is - it's always been.

My house has fallen down - doesn't mean everyone else's will. I think we'll just keep ticking along in one form or another.

Feels like the time for a Marcus Cole quote:

I used to think it was awful that life was so unfair. Then I thought, "wouldn't it be much worse if life were fair, and all the terrible things that happen to us come because we actually deserve them?" So now I take great comfort in the general hostility and unfairness of the universe.

Sorry to hear about your house. The good thing about material possessions is that they can be fixed or replaced. Lives cannot.

I'm very sorry to hear all this. I admire your philosophical attitude, but I wish you good luck and a swift return to normalcy.

/.../ amplified by the fact that regardless of where you are in the world you can be immediately informed of every horror that happens to occur. Imagine if we had the same technological advancements during say, the Black Death?
Well, after a week and a half of "people are still dying", it wouldn't be considered newsworthy and "the rising prises of hay" and "hitherto unknown person wins singing-contest" and "religious statue bleeding" would have become the only thing on the news yet again. :(

Nah, this week it's witch burning.
