One of the things that's making me not be interested -- a lot fo the images , like Samurai, i don't think were well known or appreciated in the US until the 1970's or later.

ANd so are the other girls also asylum inmates sharing the same dream?

Snyder's films have failed to impress me in the past (Dawn of the Dead remake aside), but I think that's largely because he was adapting other peoples' works. 300 was trash and Watchmen was soulless, but as an original piece, I think this might work better. The only thing that scares me off is that it looks like he's using a lot of that obnoxious fucking speed ramping technique that he loves so much. But, I'll still give it a shot and go in fairly optimistic.

Edit: BTW, do we know what this film is rated yet? I'll be even more optimistic if it's R-rated.

Considering the movie comes out this weekend, yes, we do know what it is rated. Hollywood seems to want to pull its punches these days when it comes to action movies (not so much with comedies) so like many movies in this genre it's rated PG-13.

As for their being no reviews (previous poster) it's probably being screened for critics tonight or tomorrow at which point we should see reviews.

What's even more sad is that Snyder fully intended to make an R rated flick. So I'm suspecting we'll see a unrated DVD in the near future. According to this thread something like 18 minutes of the film got cut in order to fit into the PG-13 rating.

That's really a damn shame. I know movies are kept to PG-13 now just for money-making purposes, but it really sucks to watch action movies that feel like they should be R-rated confined by PG-13 rules.

The lack of early reviews usually is a very bad thing. I don't see this movie doing well at.

Snyder is very lucky that he was already given Superman before this movie was released.

Wait why though? What else is it even up against? It will most likely get hammered by the critics but I'm sure it will still do well at the box office.

Well, it's also a bad sign that it's being released in March. This is the time of year when studios release their shitty movies in the hopes that they'll pull in a little cash or break even because every other movie released in this time frame is doing the same thing. It's the time of year for the "no-confidence" movies.

Edit: As examples of two thoroughly forgettable, mediocre to bad movies released recently, Adjustment Bureau and Battle: Los Angeles. Both films that will be remembered for all of 6 months and then forgotten completely.

Well with the huge competition of movies being released this summer, maybe they're releasing it now so it won't get lost in the shuffle.

Just so - that's why it's "no-confidence" time. These are movies that the studios know wouldn't be able to compete with summer blockbusters so they release their mediocre products now.

This is like, Snyder's slot though. I think "300" and "Watchmen" opened up in March and did relatively well opening weekends. It's not up against anything monster, so it should do okay. "Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules" is maybe the most well known film it's up against. "Hobo With a Shot Gun" opens too but that's gonna be a niche movie probably earning no more than five million.

Searching just now it seems that there were no super-early screenings for critics with this movie, the first screenings are (were) tonight at 10pm (I assume Western Time as this article is from a Californian newspaper) so I presume some reviews should appear on-line tomorrow and maybe in papers Friday when the movie opens wide.

Yeah, that is the main competition that it has this weekend. The first Diary of a Wimpy Kid movie was a small hit. On boxofficemojo forums, many people think it will end up doing better than Sucker Punch this weekend.

I expected there to be much more Sucker Punch reviews out by now.

^^The only review that I've read is the cinemablend review written by Katey Rich who did not like the movie and gave it 2 and a half stars.

Well, we'll see in a couple days. I'm still hopeful, though slightly less for that PG-13 rating.
