An Origin for Saavik

Is there another group of humans with telepathy...? Other than Mutants I mean... who aren't human.
Irrelevent. The point is humans posseses a wide variety of cultures traits and characteristics, so there's no reason that a group of aliens can't. Even if its a trait not seen in humans.

The Aenar, a sub species of the Andorians are telepaths even though other Andorians are not.

I wouldn't necessarily have included the Remans on that list, not being sure they in fact are from the group of emmigrants who left Vulcan.

They could have been indigenous to Reman (and maybe Romulus too) at the time that the Romulans first arrived.

Pointy ears and telepathy, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. ;)

Anyway, why would it be even noteworthy that Saavik might be part Romulan, I mean, she's not a Vulcan/Vulcan hybrid. Why was Simon Tarses career ended when it was mentioned that his paternal grandfather was Romulan and not Vulcan.

Because he had lied about it when he applied to join Starfleet.

False, it's because there was a witch-hunt going on for Romulan infiltrators at the time and he made an excellent scape goat. The fact that he lied on his admission form was all the excuse they needed.

Why make the distinction between a Romulan grandfather and a Vulcan grandfather if they are the exact same species?

The political entity with which they associated with. A person who grew up thinking the phrase, "I am a Romulan," would be a larger potential threat to the Federation than would a person with the phrase "I am a Vulcan." Besides, Vulcans live by Surak's ways and would rather have peace; Romulans wouldn't.

Since the two Lt. Saaviks were so different, I believe that a later script could have brought both of them back, explaining that they were half-sisters, and only one of them was half-Romulan. I thinl it could have worked nicely.

Interesting, was Saavik 2 coincidentally serving aboard the Grissom?

All rampant speculation . . .

Assuming that the half-sisters got their father's name (Western chauvinism, I know), I suppose that one had a Romulan mother. Maybe "Saavik" is a feminized variant of a male forebear's name: their father or uncle may have been named "Savik," a name in the general Vulcan mode. But if dramatic needs require, we can alter the parentage as needed.

Coincidence? Why not? It's been invoked before. But it seems that Saavik I was a captain-in-training, whereas Saavik II was science officer material.

^The original plan for Saavik (before Nimoy decided to return) was for her to replace Spock as Enterprise science officer.
