How fast is your internet?

1203679585.png

I'm supposedly using Roadrunner's "turbo" service. :p Can't complain too much, though, it's way faster than my old DSL was. And I've got it at a discounted price through May. Trying to decide if I want to go down to their "basic" service after that, or see if I can get another discounted price by telling them I'm going to switch back to DSL. :shifty:

Download: 9.78 Mb/s
Upload: 0.48 Mb/s
Ping: 17 ms
Grade: C (Faster then 51% of GB)

More than enough for my purposes.

I just doubled my speed by adding fiber optics to the house at no extra charge. I'm actually saving $5 a month because they took away the modem.

I know it's slow, as I'm using a prepaid wireless at the moment. Generally it's between 0.75 and 1 Mb for download.

The advertised speed is 50/10 Mb/s, but the clever marketing people include all protocol overhead in that figure.

From my Android phone:

The upstream is actually faster but it apparently gets throttled very quickly after an initial burst. When it starts off, the upload passes 1Mbps, then it stalls. Hm.

Well here's me at home:

Can't say I'm thrilled with the upload speed although it is as advertised. I just wish they would give more flexibility with upload speeds.

FYI: this is with only one bar.

Wow, I couldn't figure out how to export the image but I got 3.40 mbps / 1.00 mbps on my iPhone 4 just now. You must be closer to the nearest server.

the closest server os approx 20 us miles from here. But to make it even stranger, my connection is slower in stockholm than at at home. Then again i dont think they payed attention when they built my phone. Its buggy as hell.

New connection:

Wanna hear something really crazy? I'm not even paying for it. It's a fiber line running to CAT5e in the wall. It's supposed to be 1.5 / 1.5 until I pay for something but apparently they're not throttling it right. I guess it could go away but...

I had comcast until just now. My new connection's not from my employer, but it's a new fiber line they ran to our apartment complex.

Leopard 10.5.6 and hacked wlan drivers. (Unstable as hell.)

The machine in question is a modified Dell Optiplex GX260.

I know those machines! I used to configure/work on GX260's and 280's for a state gov't IT office.

Yeah, they're pretty decent machines. Got a shitload of them at home. I dragged home maybe ten of them after my school bought new computers. I slaughtered the rest for parts and upgraded the ones i braught home. Gave most of them to friends and family (my cousin was running a 500mhz celeron) but i still got my hackintosh and one i use as a server.

I pay for a 25 mb/s line including TV over internet so it's all right.. a bit over what i pay for but it's early in the day and most people are at work so i guess the lines are not that crowded.

It's not the cheapest company i guess but their technical support is quite good.
