Worf, hmm? What is he good for? Absolutely nothing?

LHWIWS is a horrible episode, and is an example of what I was saying about DS9 getting Worf's character wrong.

I can't see TNG-era Worf pulling that crap.

Maybe. But I love that Q-quote: "Oh, very clever, Worf. Eat any good books lately?" :p

I never liked him much, but he definitely got worse after joining DS9.

Let He Who Is Without Sin... brings out the absolute worst in all the characters. For proof, just watch SFDebris' review of it.

That ep did explain why Worf is such a party-pooper most of the time. The last time he let out his emotions and had a lot of fun, during that school soccer game, he accidentally killed someone. Who wouldn't dial it back a bit after something like that happened? He killed someone once, he could do it again. Why take that risk?

Boo-hoo. He can be grumpy and miserable all he wants. That doesn't give him the right to rain on everybody else's parade. Why ruin everyone's holiday? Most people work hard to earn those. There were thousands of people just wanting to have a good time, and along comes emo-Klingon and messes it all up. What a clusterfuck. I would be so pissed off. I'm surprised nobody sued his whiney arse.

How can you sue someone when they don't have any money? The only work to 'better themselves'. :rommie:

I thought it was a ridiculous explanation.

"being overly physically rough with a more fragile species" and "learning to relax and have fun" is totally different.

It's like saying someone who owned a cat, and was trying to "play" with said cat by swinging the cat by the tail and accidentally threw it off the balcony, should take from that incident the lesson

"don't play with your cat, ever."

noooooooo, the lesson is "play with a cat by dangling a ball of string, NOT swinging it by the tail near balconies."

I bet they only claim they work purely to "better themselves" in order to protect themselves from potential lawsuits, anyway. No way people in 300 years time have stopped dragging each other to court.

If someone ruined my holiday like that, I would definitely sue them. I don't care if he doesn't have any money. Think of something, douchebag, 'cause it's payday for you. In the immortal words of Sheldon Cooper: It's on, bitch!

Another argument in favour of "no way in hell people work for free in the UFP".

According to Encounter at Farpoint, half way into the 21st century, they'd killed all the lawyers. Mass graves. Just like Shakespeare suggested.

Anybody who sued Worf would probably only get a bowl of gagh. :klingon:

I'm not afraid of Worf. When he gets angry, he turns into The Incredible Sulk.

Also, canon, shmanon. Sure people still sue each other. It's in our nature.

But don't forget in ST humans have made Earth a paradise. So obviously in Trek reality, humans are fundamentally different. So maybe they don't sue (as much).

The Klingon war and Worf joining DS9 was part of a mandate to boost ratings (the mandate was just to shake things up, not explicitly add Worf & Klingons). Worf was only in conflict with Odo for a few episodes early in Season 4. Worf did feel like a 8th, 9th wheel, whatever # cast member he was. DS9 didn't really benefit from Worf's presence. DS9 did well with a very strong supporting cast. Perhaps Worf should've been stationed at Starbase 375 as the strategic officer with Admiral Ross and only occasionally appear with DS9 on missions (like "Apocalypse Rising").

He wasn't brought on to be paired up with Dax. That happened over Season 5, a full season after he joined. That seemed to be a product of wanting a romance to perhaps boost ratings, forgetting how hated Worf-Troi was (Trek does not do romances well, Worf-Troi, Worf-Dax, Chakotay-Seven).

General Martok was a better character that contributed more to the show than Worf. Looking back on his 4 seasons on DS9, how good were the Worf-centric episodes? He seemed like a Starfleet first officer stand-in for Sisko. He was a red uniformed version of Eddington, a Starfleet officer on the peripheral of the show. Worf never really fit in. The Dax relationship seemed to give him something to remain relevant.

Even as a kid/teen when DS9 was on, adding Worf seemed like a blatant move for ratings. Yes, I was actually skeptical towards Seven of Nine at first, but they developed her character well, particularly before they fell into the pattern of Seven as the immune character like Data or Spock (e.g. "One", "Bliss", and then with the classic reversal in "The Voyager Conspiracy", "The Raven" like Data had in "Brothers" and "Descent").

Troi on DS9 would have been funny:
Sisko, Troi at a meeting with a Vorta:
Troi: "Captain, I sense he's lying."
Sisko: "I know that! He's a Vorta. They always lie."
Troi: "I sense a lot of anger in you captain, directed at me strangely..."

The best TNG crossover to DS9 was O'Brien, by far.

Good point. But I still like to think that's propaganda. Humans haven't changed since forever, and I'm supposed to believe that they "evolved" over every petty sentiment in a couple hundred years?

Nope. I don't buy it.

:p
