Wonder Woman(NBC) *Spoilers!*

She doesn't look frail to me; in fact, she was cast in part for her athleticism, being a former basketball player and track athlete. If she looks thin in proportion, it's because she's 5'11" -- which is just an inch shorter than Wonder Woman canonically is in the comics. Compare a picture of, say, Venus Williams or Maria Sharapova -- tennis stars who are very tall and lanky, but undeniably strong and powerful.

The fact is, people who are really physically strong, who genuinely use their muscles in practice, are a lot less "bulked-up" than professional bodybuilders. You don't have to be bulgy to be powerful.

Don't get me wrong, I'm still not sold on Palicki; her face just doesn't say Wonder Woman to me. But I find no fault with her physique.

As for the costume, it's much better than I was expecting. I like the design, though the execution is a bit crude. It's sort of a middle ground between the classic look and the recent Jim Lee redesign which I also liked. Though I still think it would be better with shoulder straps, since this is an outfit that needs to be practical in action. Also, by the same token, it shouldn't be quite so tight and the heels shouldn't be so high. And I'd prefer a darker blue to the pants and boots, and the red star in the middle of the eagle emblem doesn't look too good, though I quite like the emblem itself.

Considering that they could have done, such as have no costume at all, it could have been worse. I never expected the swimsuit to be used because if nothing else the morals police would have gone after them, because remember we live in the New Victorian Era now and if anyone shows any skin it's got to be slapped down for the sake of the children (so sayeth the PTC). And also, frankly, Lynda Carter is the only person who could have made it work without camping it up or filling the costume with 1 parts boobs, 3 parts irony, which would have looked stupid.

Also, if this is a "modern-day" Wonder Woman, meaning more violent encounters with bad guys than Lynda had, then she needs more protection than the swimsuit.

I'm fine with the costume. It didn't make me break into laughter like the Captain America suit when I first saw it (though to be fair I was spoiled by the fact I'd seen the 1970s TV movies), and she actually does look like Wonder Woman in it (as opposed to someone just wearing a Wonder Woman costume).

But frankly, it doesn't matter to me if she wears a potato sack or performs in the nude, it's how she approaches the character that counts, both as Wonder Woman and as Diana Prince. If she clicks with audiences, then it won't matter. If all we have is the costume, then the show won't last 6 weeks. Frankly that applied to Lynda Carter 35 years ago as well.

I agree that they should darken the blue (and maybe the red just a bit). They should also make the boots red and lessen the sheen. Other than that it's fine.

Wonder Woman's costume has always looked ridiculous and impractical so at least they are keeping with tradition.

If it hasn't been done already, someone should write an episode for some super heroine in which she breaks one of her ankles while in costume, because of its high heels.

"No high heels" should be #2 on Edna Mode's list of costume don'ts, right after "no capes."

The costume isn't really that bad but I cannot believe that in the year 2011 that the typical Wonder Woman costume we're all familiar with is too racy.

When I heard that they were doing away with the more familiar costume, I was a bit concerned about what we'd end up with, but I'm happy with this. It's very much Wonder Woman.

:bolian:

Ah...But, are the pants because of raciness, or because of silliness. She's still got the same cleavage, and the pants are so tight and form fitting, you can practically see her veins, so, I tend to think it's to avoid cheeziness/silliness, rather than to avoid raciness

I don't think it's a matter of being "racy". It's just that those highcut shorts look horribly dated and ridiculous now.

I'm all for showing some skin, but that 80s porn star look really needed to go.

:wtf::eek::guffaw::crazy::razz::barf::ack:

The costume looks cheap and sleazy; Palicki has a weird puffy Barbie-doll face. The overall effect is a hooker at Comic-Con (maybe that's the idea?)

So much for this show.

I would have loved it if the costuming dept had had the imagination to revamp the costume so that it actually looked like something a superheroine could wear while kicking evildoer's butt.

Your guys have made some excellent points! I now see what you guys mean.

She's hot.

Any chance the costume might get touched up in post-production as is the case in feature films? Otherwise I don't hold out much hope.

It's no worse than what the women from Charmed or Mutant X used to wear.

It's clearly Wonder Woman, even if it's a core reflex of the character that people take Wonder Woman serious when she is blatantly ridiculous running around in public in a swim suit.

Well, the lower half of Wonder Woman's costume has had many different cuts over the decades, progressing with the fashion of the times. She started out with a skirt, then shorts that got gradually shorter, then briefs that got gradually higher-cut, with a number of variations in between. Her most recent look in the comics is very similar to this TV costume, and is no doubt an influence upon it, though the comics costume looks better and is more practical.

Who hired the generic model?

Oh... that's who they cast?

BO-ring.

Who ever said up thread it looks like a cheap Halloween costume, is dead on. It's VINYL. I just can't get away from that. It's cheap looking VINYL. Of all the materials to make it out of, of all the materials that if could have been, they chose THIS?

Pah.

Edited to add: Ultimately, it looks CHEAP. Cheap. That's what it looks like. It looks quickly and cheaply made. The design is fine. But, it's not fantastic. It doesn't make me think the people in charge really care. It looks cheap and generic.

Um... yikes?

I will say the design looks perfectly fine (simply putting pants on the original costume works surprisingly well)... but my god, the materials they chose look cheap as hell! It really DOES look like one of those cheap superhero Halloween costumes you can find online (even down to the cheap plastic shield and bracelets!)

Presactly.

That costume looks like something a sorority girl would rent from a party store for Halloween. It's barely more credible than the suit that Rachael Bilson wore that time on the OC...and that was supposed to be a cheap getup.

If anything, the costume Erica Durance wore on Smallville was actually better.

I wonder where they get that vinyl on Paradise Island? The smallville costume was waaaaayyy better than this.
