Batman: Arkham City - Coming Fall 2011

I'm really hoping but not expecting a novelization for this game. The story seems too rich to ignore this time around. I can not understand having one for the first game.

I just saw that trailer yesterday and all I can say is :drool:. October 18 cannot come soon enough. Does anyone know who's voicing Catwoman? I couldn't tell for sure if it was the actress from BTAS when I watched the trailer.

^ I thought catwomen was being voiced by the lead actress from the show Castle or the chick in Aragon's avatar ;).

I forget her name.

Stana Katic. And no, she's voicing Talia al Ghul.

I've looked everywhere, and there's no mention of who is voicing Catwoman. She's not even listed as a character on the B:AC IMDb page, and Wikipedia just says she's in the game but doesn't mention who's voicing her. Very odd.

I had thought that they were using alot of the same people from BTAS, but apparently pretty much everybody except Kevin Conroy, Mark Hamill and Arleen Sorking are different. So I guess probably not Adrienne Barbeau, from BTAS.

Batman keeps sounding better and better though am not sold over this new boost feature when gliding, looks a little jerky with the animation.

Well they're the only two that really matter IMO. :)

You probably won't be too bothered that Arleen Sorkin isn't back for Arkham City then.

^That one bothers me. She's the only person I have ever heard as Harley, so it's going to be pretty odd hearing her pass it off to someone else.

Catwoman has been confirmed to be a playable character in Arkham City. She'll have her own combat style/moves, gadgets, navigation abilities, and levelling system.

The video also provides a bit of information about Batman's abilities, such as his combat system and Detective Mode. And there's some tasty looking game footage thrown in there too.
Cool. I'm a big Selena fan, so that has me pretty excited!
I wonder if there will be anyother playable characters, like Robin or Nightwing?

^I'm more interested to know if playing as Selena will be part of the main game or some kind of unlock you get after completing the main story. It would feel odd for a sandbox game to be flicking back and forth between two different characters on parallel storylines.

As for Sorkin...I know this sounds like sacrilege but did anyone else think her performance in the first game to be a little *off* at times? It may sound like nitpicking and perhaps it's just me but there was something about her line reading that really stood out like a sour thumb to me. I found it particularly noticeable in the recording you find of her interviewing Joker before he turns her. Just about everything is taken verbatim from Dini's comic 'Mad Love' which makes it especially odd since she'd recorded these very same line once already for the cartoon adaptation. I don't know, perhaps she was just feeling rusty not having played Harley in a while.

^Having seen some more interviews since I think you're correct. I can't help but wonder how they'll handle the switching back and forth.

The way I see it it'll have to be plot related. As in once you get to a certain point with one character, the narrative takes over and shifts you from Bruce to Selina or back again. In a way it's a relief that they're making this as story focused as the original, just with a much bigger area to play in. The idea of it being a GTA style sandbox game had me a little worried as those types of games often have rather disjointed stories. I liked how AA was more in the vein of Metroid. Enough of a sandbox to explore and make it feel open world, but still essencially a more or less linear experience.

One thing I would like to see that didn't happen in Arkham Asylum is more stuff to do once you've beaten the story. Sure, you can run around looking for Riddler's puzzles, but that's about it. If they're going to let you wander around the entire game map at the end, there should be more stuff to do...or at least more random bad guys that you can continue to beat up.

I don't know. I mean once the story is over then it's over, right? Allowing the player to wander around and explore/find the easter eggs and riddler puzzles was just an added bonus. If you wanted to just beat up random thugs then that's what the challenge rooms were for, no? ;)

Getting back to Catwoman for a sec; the more I look at what they're doing the more I think this may be the first time any media other than comics have gotten the character "right." Even the Bruce Timm & Co cartoons never seemed to know quite what to do with her and they're usually the gold standard for adapting DC characters.

I didn't like the challenge rooms. I wanted to wander around the map and have random bad guys spawn.
