First full-length Super 8 trailer

Argh... looks like Kyle Chandler's role is huge... what with King Kong and Friday Night Lights before this, it looks as though he might finally be hitting the big time, which is wonderful. :)

It looks like a nice throw-back to Spielberg's earlier (and better days) of E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial and Close Encounters of the Third Kind. And, as JacksonArcher noted, it's a big budget summer movie that isn't based on a comic-book, a sequel, or a remake.

Still, I await the reviews. Movie tickets are too expensive these days for me to go see very many films (at least, very many that aren't free screenings through the university).

Either Spielberg was looking over Abrams shoulder and making suggestions on every shot, or Abrams is really good at aping that old Spielberg style.

I suspect the latter. Considering you had to say that "old" Spielberg style, suggesting Spielberg hasn't had that "style" in a long time which he really hasn't.

This movie looks great both as entertainment and visually.

This movie looks awesomely old school. You really would have thought that Spielberg had directed this. JJ Abrams has always been good with homages. He did a very impressive TZ homage during Felicity (the only episode of that show I ever watched). Everything was perfect from the lighting to the direction to the story to even the looks on the actors and actresses faces.

^ Yeah. I know it's somewhat in vogue (especially around here... wonder why?) to hate on Abrams, but I really do get the impression he's a really smart filmmaker with a genuine appreciation of his craft.

This movie is on the top of my "must see" list and this trailer makes me want to see it even more!

That trailer was pretty good incentive not to waste my money when the movie comes out. Thanks for posting it.

I didn't know much about this prior to seeing the trailer this morning.

I'm in line now. This movie looks like it has what it takes. :techman:

I don't know maybe my cynicism is fading as I grow into old age, but with things like Cloverfield and well tonight with Battle : LA ...I guess I am just in the mood these days for the old neighborhood stomping monster movies.

This one seems to have the old school elements of those 1950's B Monster Movies films...the Hardy Sheriff, the plucky yet eager kids who try to wade in and stop the monster from attacking their town, the shady military guys who try to stop this mess before it gets out of hand...

I care little for who directed what...whether the shaky cam style is used or not....just well...entertain me ..I mean I am paying for it.

I say bring on the monster!

I'm gonna see this one :)

Very effective trailer. It definitely has that old nostalgic Hollywood blockbuster feel to it. Definitely has that Spielberg vibe, which was intentional. Looks good.

Just think, in twenty years from now they'll change the guns to walkie talkies. This looks like E.T. meets Cloverfield. So far I've seen nothing impressive. Cloverfield sucked complete balls and I don't want to see a repeat, but set in the 70s. I hope this movie not that.

Aside from the monster\alien angle, how does this look like Cloverfield at all? They're totally different approaches; the trailers alone show that.

Well if this movie is from the perspective of the camera, then it is. It looks more like E.T., but with a monster/alien, either way this trailer tells me nothing about the movie. I also feel this movie may be like Cloverfield in that they won't even really show the monster until the end. If that is the case, I definately don't want to see this movie. I'm sick of not seeing the monster in a monster movie.

^ I think the Super 8 film is important somehow—I'm betting they learn what the monster looks like because they accidentally filmed it escaping or something—but the movie is pretty clearly in good-old 35 mm film. Cloverfield had a pretty clever gimmick (I enjoyed it, at least), but I don't think they'd go back there in a non-sequel. Plus, it wouldn't make any sense in an homage to Spielberg's career.
