Hmm, I neglected to comment on "Downtime." It was an interesting episode with a lot going on mythology-wise and continuity-wise. Interesting how they acknowledged the original DC Universe Aqualad, Garth, by saying that it came down to a choice between Garth and Kaldur'ahm and in this universe, it was Kaldur who got the gig. And we also get what seems to be a setup for a Starro storyline, if I'm right about what that thing in the ice appeared to be.
I think this is only the second time we've heard Phil LaMarr's Aquaman, and he seemed to be playing it a bit differently than in "Independence Day." It sounded like LaMarr was doing a Laurence Fishburne impression. (
Fishburne. How appropriate.)
We get some day-in-the-life glimpses of the other team members as well. Nice to see that the Earth-16 Bruce Wayne is able to lighten up and be a friendly father figure to Dick. Also, Bruce Greenwood was fantastic in Batman's initial one-on-one talk with Kaldur. He is indeed a worthy successor to Kevin Conroy.
And we get confirmation for the sharp-eyed (or those with freeze-frame) that Artemis is indeed Artemis Crock, who in the comics is the daughter of the Sportsmaster. Interesting that Sportsmaster has already been introduced as a villain, and before Artemis joined the team. And I hadn't noticed that the blonde Artemis was actually half-Vietnamese, though now that I know, I can recognize it in her character design. Ironic that Kelly Hu voices both her mother and Cheshire, who apparently has some history with her. Or maybe it's not accidental. Could they be related?
The Team finds itself wandering the desert of Bialya with no memory of the last six months – or of each other. Only Miss Martian can restore their minds and figure out what happened.
I wonder, does that mean the show's jumping forward six months, or that this episode is set shortly after the last one but they've forgotten everything since February/March, including all the previous episodes? Come to think of it, if they've forgotten each other, it's probably the latter. It's noteworthy that at the end of "Downtime," Batman began to brief the team on their next mission, which involved the desert of Bialya.
