Young Justice-Tonight!

Just two episodes in March

Friday, March 4th, 2011 at 7:00pm (ET)
Young Justice - "Downtime"
After a disastrous mission with the team, Aqualad returns to Atlantis to choose between a life on the surface world or one beneath the waves with the Aquagirl of his dreams. But other forces at play may make Aqualad's decision for him.

Young Justice - "Bereft"
The team finds itself wandering the desert of Bialya with no memory of the last six months...or of each other. Only Miss Martian can restore their minds and figure out what happened, but is she too late to save Superboy?

April 8th is unclear at this time. I HOPE they won't air the entire first 7 episodes again!

An Aqualad episode tonight, eh. Looking forward to it.

I think I am caught up on this...I saw "Downtime" Pretty good ep...really don't find Aquaman or Aqualad interesting...but it wasn't too bad.

So far, all episodes have been good. I've been really amazed.

Cartoon Network is turning out something at least as good, and possibly better than, Legion of Super Heroes from a few years back.

Hmm, I neglected to comment on "Downtime." It was an interesting episode with a lot going on mythology-wise and continuity-wise. Interesting how they acknowledged the original DC Universe Aqualad, Garth, by saying that it came down to a choice between Garth and Kaldur'ahm and in this universe, it was Kaldur who got the gig. And we also get what seems to be a setup for a Starro storyline, if I'm right about what that thing in the ice appeared to be.

I think this is only the second time we've heard Phil LaMarr's Aquaman, and he seemed to be playing it a bit differently than in "Independence Day." It sounded like LaMarr was doing a Laurence Fishburne impression. (Fishburne. How appropriate.)

We get some day-in-the-life glimpses of the other team members as well. Nice to see that the Earth-16 Bruce Wayne is able to lighten up and be a friendly father figure to Dick. Also, Bruce Greenwood was fantastic in Batman's initial one-on-one talk with Kaldur. He is indeed a worthy successor to Kevin Conroy.

And we get confirmation for the sharp-eyed (or those with freeze-frame) that Artemis is indeed Artemis Crock, who in the comics is the daughter of the Sportsmaster. Interesting that Sportsmaster has already been introduced as a villain, and before Artemis joined the team. And I hadn't noticed that the blonde Artemis was actually half-Vietnamese, though now that I know, I can recognize it in her character design. Ironic that Kelly Hu voices both her mother and Cheshire, who apparently has some history with her. Or maybe it's not accidental. Could they be related?

I wonder, does that mean the show's jumping forward six months, or that this episode is set shortly after the last one but they've forgotten everything since February/March, including all the previous episodes? Come to think of it, if they've forgotten each other, it's probably the latter. It's noteworthy that at the end of "Downtime," Batman began to brief the team on their next mission, which involved the desert of Bialya.

I finally saw the pilot and loved it. Hoping to spend the weekend to catch up on the rest of the season. I loved seeing Zatara (Zee's father) in the Justice League alert with Superman.

I wasn't clear at first if the episode was set six months in the future, but apparently their mission had started one day prior (or did they say 48 hours ago) and Psimon just erased six months' worth of their memories.

The episode was just all right. I felt like Superboy was going "Hulk smash!" Was that Marina Sirtis' voice behind one of the figures?

So far this is show is moderately interesting but not amazing. I really wish that Superboy was more like his original 90s outrageous incarnation. This personality-less morose blank slate is extremely boring. And I really wish they would step it up with the villains.

Oh but speaking of which; DARKSEID! WOO! Best. DC. Villain. Ever. How long before we actually get to meet him though? I thought it was strange that they said they were detecting zeta beam radiation though. Zeta beams are used by Rann and should have nothing to do with boom tubes.

That was definitely Marina Sirtis. I wonder who she'll play?

A good one. Interesting to see the characters stripped of their memories and revealing new things about their core personalities. It was particularly impressive how essential M'gann was to recreating the team, which makes up for her near-total absence from the pilot. She really took charge here.

I wasn't clear at first if the episode was set six months in the future...

Yes, it was. The opening date caption said September 4, and a few minutes later we heard Robin say, "September fourth? What happened to March?" I believe the closing date caption of "Downtime" was September 2 or 3, and at the very least we know the pilot episode took place on July 4.

Why not? Physics is conservative. The universe doesn't make up totally new phenomena for different iterations of the same principle. It's logical that two different civilizations' teleportation systems would be based on similar physics, even if they use different names for it.

That was definitely Marina Sirtis. I wonder who she'll play?

It's been announced in press releases that she plays
Queen Bee, the queen of Bialya, who was mentioned in Batman's briefing.

Everytime I heard Bialia I couldn't help but think Libya, and then of course, there's Qurac. I was just waiting for Marmum Daggafi to come after them.

It was also funny to see Superboy rip a tank apart and then have trouble with six guys holding his arm.

The episode already felt a bit by-the-numbers for YJ which is troubling since it hasn't been airing very long. Not awful but a bit rote.

The animation seemed really good though so even it was all familiar it looked really great. I've really come to like this Ms. Martian which I didn't expect when the show debuted, it seems the writers do as well, and I like her chemistry with Superboy. Artemis seems a real wash at this point though and Robin feels a bit tacked on at times.

In the DC Universe, Bialya is north of Saudi Arabia and Iran, which would seem put it somewhere around Eastern Turkey and Armenia.

It's all about leverage.

Yeah, and these aren't the droids you're looking for!

Nevertheless, once again, I'm enjoying this. Where else could that interdimensional gateway go but to Darkseid.

Also: Artemis and Wally held hands, and, according to Robin, need a room! And Megan and Superboy nearly sucked face!! :adore: :luvlove: Love, exciting and new ...

SUPERBOY SMASH!!!

She played Queen Bee

She's also another alumni of Greg Weisman's "Gargoyles"

She played Demona in "Gargoyles"

The Dr Fate episode had Thom Adcox-Hernandez(Lexington) and Ed Asner(Hudson) as Kent Nelson.

Not to mention Jeff Bennett (Brooklyn) as Abra Kadabra, as I mentioned at the time.

Weisman and his voice director Jamie Thomason reuse actors a lot in their shows. A number of Gargoyles vets did The Spectacular Spider-Man (including Ed Asner as Uncle Ben, which is ironic since Asner played J. Jonah Jameson in the '90s animated series). So it's no surprise to hear a number of them turning up here now. In addition to Bennett, Asner, Adcox, and Sirtis, we've had Kath Soucie (the Weird Sisters) as Queen Mera, Lori Lemaris, and Joan Garrick, and Cree Summer (Hyena) as Madame Xanadu, Tula, and Mary West.

^ Great scene. "Apokalips Now" is one of my all time favorite DC animated episodes. It's the episode that made me fall in love with Darkseid. He was SO bad ass in that.

I'm glad that they are keeping the general appearance of the Boom Tubes consistent throughout the Universes.

Artemis is Merlyn's Daughter (probably?)
Miss Martian is supposed to be a white Martian (Maybe?)
Aqualad is Black Manta's kid.
Superboy has Half Luthor DNA.

Maybe if that's Jason Todd?

But Kid Flash is about the only %100 untainted kid on this team.

Are we really watching the Injustice League Junior?

That did look like a boom tube, but with out the boom... However they said Zeta beams earlier in the episode, so that means Rann and Adam Strange unless Zeta beams are a component of the Boom Tube.
