What is the best movie you have seen this year? so far i think they have all been dissapointing. Last movie i really liked was inception. Which one is your favorite movie this year?

I've only seen a few movies in 2011 and they all sucked. Season of the Witch(knew this sucked ahead of time), The Green Hornet, Drive Angry.

True Grit was the last good movie I saw, but that was 2010.

I guess 'Unknown' (otherwise known as "What if 'Taken' and 'The Bourne Identity' were siblings that had a love child?") or 'The Adjustment Bureau' (AKA "What if you remade 'The Matrix' but took out all the virtual reality, robots, guns, and martial arts?") would be the best films I've seen in 2011 so far, but both of those barely scrape by with a "B" grade at best.

This time of year is usually pretty dire for movies.

Considering this year's crop of movies so far... I cannot wait for the Summer Blockbuster season! Most are re-hashes of other movies, as already mentioned... and NOT done as well as the originals.

A B is a B all the same, no matter if it is barely or not. Has anyone seen Rango yet, it looks good.

Think I'll wait for at least the halfway point for the year before attempting to answer this question.

The only movie I have been to this year was Black Swan which I guess is technically a 2010 movie. I didn't think it was particularly good either.

I have really been disappointed in movies I have payed to see lately. Inception was a good popcorn movie, but nothing deeper. Shutter Island was not only Scorsese's worst picture, but a terrible picture overall.

I am looking forward to the glut of comic book movies coming this summer though especially Thor.

No need to convince me about your grades. I'm not your Tiger Mom. :p;)

I wasn't grading a school test or paper. The point in saying that they barely got "B's" was to imply that they were mostly mediocre but with a few elements that occasionally elevated the films.

^ How closely does Adjustment Bureau follow the PKD short story?

I never read it, so I'm not sure. Just going from the short story synopsis on Wiki, the broad ideas are there, but the details are completely different. No Summoner dogs, no wife (his love of a woman he just met is the key plot point of the film), he's a politician instead of a real estate agent, etc.

They have a detailed plot summary of the movie on Wiki if you want to check it out to compare, but it's spoilery.

I wrote a longer non-spoilery review in another thread.

Cool. Thanks. Like a lot of PKD's stuff, it's a great concept that's just about right for a short story.

My teen sister got me to go see Beastly on Friday. It was ok, but not like Oscar worthy or anything. That's the only new movie I've seen this year.

I am in agreement with Sector 7 and cannot wait for summer blockbuster time: X-Men, Thor, and Pirates are the major ones off of the tip of my head.

Haven't gone to the theatre so far this year and I don't know of anything coming out soon that interests me. I've got movie gift cards on Christmas this last Christmas and the year before and I still haven't used them.

All I've seen so far in 2011 is stuff from last year- so, King's Speech, True Grit, Black Swan, and Winter's Bone.

How is this not a TV/Media thread?! Come on, Cadet, put in a smidgen of effort, if you please.  :klingon:

If you don't like the thread, make your own... but don't complain when the OP asked a legitimate question.:rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:
