Tea...Earl Grey...Hot

Mmm. Yes. This brings back memories of a precocious childhood consuming tea, toast and reading newspapers. Earl Grey is quite good, but Blackcurrant is divine. :)

Do you use a metal teapot, a ceramic one of fine bone china? Of course, you're pre-heating the pot before adding the leaves - (1 teaspoon per person/cup and one for the pot).

I own a tea and coffee house, and with over 40 varieties of tea, Earl Grey is by far the best seller. I wonder if Picard has any influence on that

It's possible. Fans of Star Trek are easily influenced in regards to things Trek. It could also be the best seller because it's amazing.
LOL, I've been drinking Twinings Teas since the 70s. Lemon scented is my favourite.

Quite interesting listening to all the Americans talking about English teas... :)

90% of my daily fluid intake is from tea.

I love earl grey tea, i hadn't tried it until i found out about it from picard. But I've always liked tea especially green, white, peppermint and chamomile.

As I mentioned, I've never tried Lady Grey, but I've smelled it (they're always wanting you to sniff tea in those shops), and it smells like something one would put in a sachet in one's underwear drawer to scent one's lingerie. But drink it? I don't think so.

You really should give it a shot. It's very similar to adding a dash of lemon juice to a cup of black tea, but less acidic.

This thread makes me want to find a tea store in my area so I can get some of that fancy Earl Grey. I only buy Twinings.

Twinings sells Earl Grey, too. Earl Grey isn't a brand of tea - it's a blend (it's just black tea that's been...I think the term is "tumbled"...with the rind of a bitter orange called bergamot. So it's basically black tea with a slight citrus-y taste). Anyway, lots of different companies sell it.

Twinings is fine - it's perfectly reliable. It's not as good as the fanch-schmancy pricey brands (which is, yes, what I buy!), but it's fine. I"ve had much, much worse. And I know for a fact that it has Earl Grey because I have a few teabags in my cupboard right now - just in case I run out of my fancy-schmancy tea!

And I agree that Earl Grey makes a lovely iced tea, too. Sorry Picard, but it really does.

Yep, mine too. I'm an American but I never did acquire a taste for coffee, a nasty bitter drink if you ask me. And sodas are just too sweet. Tea is the way to go, at least for me.

It was the smell of the vanilla that really put me off. That just was NOT right. Besides, if I want lemon in my Earl Grey, why not just...you know...add some lemon to my Earl Grey?

Indeed! Coffee is vile stuff, never liked it. Although I love the smell of fresh coffee beans/powder. Very different to the taste though :wtf:

I drink Earl Grey because of Picard too. Am glad to find out I'm not the only one.

In fact, reading through this thread has made me crave a cup of it right now. Off to the kettle I go......

Have now burnt my tongue and spilt Earl grey on my keyboard. I don't think I like Earl Grey anymore :(

Not if it's made properly, with beans that have been roasted to perfection (not burned) and not "overextracted". Same rules apply re water temp. Aso helps of you have a really good espresso/ cappucino machine that allows you to adjust water temp. I bet you'd love the coffee I make. It is definitely nicer than the stuff Starbucks used to make here.

See my above post. It's only bitter when the beans are burned/over-roasted and they've used water that is boiling instead of off the boil.

Perhaps. I've had coffee plenty of times and I've always had to add cream and sugar due to how bitter it was. I prefer tea. Like some gunpowder green tea from the local Asian market. Comes loose in a tin. Delich. The bagged variety is blasphemy.
