Sheen, "voluntarily enters rehab center"

Bless him. What he says about rehab clinics is particularly apt. And his description of his own experience and distorted thinking is dead on and honest and brave.

I've been thinking about the amount of luls we're - well, I'm - getting out of Sheen's meltdown and it is unseemly. My feeble excuse is that as out-of-control and self-destructive as Sheen's ranting has been this week, he is aware on some level (has acknowledged as much) that he's trying to entertain people, he's seeking out public venues where he has an audience in order to do these things, etc etc and so forth. It's not exactly, for example, as if we're watching a wealthy, irresponsible young woman being led in and out of a courtroom in an orange jumpsuit because she abuses drugs. But he is in a lot of trouble, and I'm not going to make jokes about his losing his children and stuff. And I know that's not good enough, but we know that I'm not a good guy.

As far as what happened over night, ABC news is reporting:

Charlie Sheen's twin boys have been removed from his home after reports that Sheen's soon-to-be ex, Brooke Mueller, has been granted a restraining order against the actor, the Los Angeles police said.

TMZ reported that Mueller obtained the restraining order Tuesday because Sheen had made a death threat against her.

Mueller said Sheen threatened to cut off her head, put it in a box and send it to her mother, according to TMZ.

Sheen denied the allegation this morning on NBC's "Today Show," adding that he did not know where his twin boys were taken.

"At this moment on live television, I do not know where my children are but I'm not panicking," Sheen said. "I've professed in ... the last few days to not deal and come from a place of panic, ego, emotion any of that. I stayed very calm and focused."

I guess my way of looking at things like this is that I don't really have a lot of sympathy for people who do stupid things and then bad things happen to them. I know that's not very nice of me, and it's certainly not a Christian attitude to have, but it is what is. You do something stupid and something bad happens to you, oh well, you made your bed, now lie in it.

However, who I DO feel a lot of sympathy for are his kids, his ex-wives, his family members, and close friends. If Charlie doesn't change, those kids are gonna grow up without a father. And that's a tragedy. Martin will lose a son, Emillo will lose a brother, and the list goes on. And no, there's no humor in that.

And I feel sympathy for the people whose livelihoods depend upon the show and Charlie being in it. It's tough economy right now and I feel for anyone out of work. Hopefully they can find some other work. Of course the reality of that is, the show is going to end some day, so some day, regardless of all this craziness, they will be out of job anyway some day.

I empathize with anyone suffering from addiction or mental health issues, based on my experiences with people in the life I live when I'm not busy being an ass online. I very much hope that Sheen recovers from all of this, because I've no reason to wish him ill. Doesn't matter whether the guy's worth a bazillion dollars or is living on the street. Not one bit.

Sheen doesn't "deserve" this - but then, my general feeling about people is that if ninety-nine percent of us could be honest with ourselves for a moment about our lives we'd be much more enthusiastic about the concept of mercy than of justice.

Mental health issues in and of themselves, yes I agree. But if that mental health issue happened because of the person making a bad choice (i.e. taking drugs in the first place), then not so much.

Again I'm not saying that's a nice way for me to be, it's just how I look at things. I want to help ANYONE who had something bad happen to them through no fault of their own. But if some makes a concious decision to take what is after all, an illegal substance, and THEN bad things happen to them, well I just don't feel that sorry for them.

I do, because I'm not perfect.

This will come as a shock to my many online admirers, I know. But just because I'm cruising at 50,000 feet with my fists of fire doesn't mean they don't put on my straitjacket one sleeve at a time.

It's not about being perfect, I'm not perfect either. I just recogonize that a great deal of the problems people have, could have been avoided if they hadn't made a stupid choice. In the case of the drugs, its' not like it's a state secret that "Drugs are bad, m'kay."

In my case, I'm fat. Hell I'm sure I'm considered obese. I have high blood pressure. I'm sure I won't live long, or if I do, I'll have a lot of health issues. But whose fault is that? MINE. No one should feel any sympathy for me. I've made choices to eat the wrong kinds of food (and too much) and have not exercised enough. Eating that bad food is my "addiction." But it's nobody's fault but mine and I will suffer the consequences. Rightfully so, because again, it's not a secret that my lifesytle is not good for you.

Now back to Charlie, IF there is some kind of underlying mental health issue BEFORE he got on drugs, something that made him more susceptible to that sort of thing, then that's a different story too.

Thanks for posting those vids JarodRussell.

Craig Ferguson has long been my favorite late night host. I think he's the only really funny one. I love him and what he said there was incredibly wise. I wish him many more years of staying strong. :bolian:

Don't get me wrong, Im having a laugh at all this, but specifically some of the zingers he has said "I am on a drug, it's called Charlie Sheen!" and NOT the fact he may be losing his marbles, and certainly not the fact his children have been taken away from him.

Well yeah, how can you not laugh at some of those zingers. THAT quote is funny. No matter what's going on with him, he's still managing to be entertaining. Now whether that's by concious thought on his part, or just a by-product of his mental state, I'm not sure.

He's indicated in the past that he's quite worried about Charlie, which in Charlie's current whacked-out state he of course resents pretty strongly.

Yeah, pretty much.

Yeah as sad as it is, you also can't help but marvel a bit at some of the stuff his whacked-out brain is coming up with.

Of course it probably won't be long before he becomes completely detached from reality like Gary Busey and spouts nothing BUT crazy nonsense.

^I think it's a little different with Gary Busey, though. He's missing part of his brain because of an accident, IRRC. Got his face smashed up pretty bad then, too. He's physically disconnected from reality in a way...:(

That didn't stop this comedic gem though...

I feel bad for Martin Sheen. Must be painful to watch his son be such a screwup.

Though imagine Emlio's shadenfreuden.

They shut up shop.

No more two and a half men for this year and maybe any other.

They had the resources to produce another 6 episodes of Two and a Half Men.

Through only a minor amount of skulduggery they could have developed a spin off off the kuff called "Rose is batshit"
