Outcasts (BBC) series 1 discussion thread

^That's maybe because it was Helen Cutter, Wamdue ;)

Pauln6, I think that's a fair point re SGU, and I say that as someone who really liked the show, but it did at least get a fair run at things, it wasn't effectively written off by its broadcaster after not even making it through half it's first season.

re the doppleganger, I thought Cass told Tate they'd searched but found nothing? I could be mistaken though

It’s funny. The internet is awash right now with people complaining about a lack of originality in televisions shows and movies in general. Specifically (as far as sci-fi goes) that there’s more to it than space battles, explosions & special effects, and fans of the genre are pretty fed up being spoon fed that kind of shit. . . . . because they can appreciate a character driven story.

Yet, after one episode something new like this started to get panned. . . . . as far as I can make out, for not being any of the above. Personally, it’s a televisions series, and reviewing it and concluding it was good or not (as opposed to discussing bits of it as it appears on screen) is something best done when the series of 8 episodes (the story) has had a chance to finish.

(That’s not a dig at anyone here btw. Just an observation.)

So far it seems to be coming together quite well . . . . just hope the writers have already figured out where they’re going with it.

that would explain that.

I thought the female XP was Helen Cutter (of Primeval) at first.

You mean the anomalies don't just travel in time but in space too?
if something can move though time, why would it have any problems moving its physical loaction?

I thought you were being clever and meant you thought it was actually Helen Cutter transported to another planet in the future...

ok I had some crossover thoughts, but I just thought when I was watching, the XP reminded me alot of Helen Cutter, it seems there was good reason for that, didnt think she WAS Helen Cutter.

I admit, although the soapy elements have been panned by some, I would genuinely have liked to see them make more of Stella and Tipper's one night stand. Maybe it's just because I liked Moonlighting... :cardie: Cass and Fleur's relationship is rather flat and predicatable but who wouldn't like to see Stella's controlled, icy exterior melt a bit more often? They wouldn't be as nutty as Starbuck and Apollo but it would spice things up, especially with him putting up her miserable, pouty daughter. Their few scenes together have dripped with the same potential as any scene featuring Eric Mabius. I hope something more happens but the longer it drifts the less likely it will happen.

It is a shame they didn't follow up more on the Stella/Tipper one night stand...if nothing else it'd be worth bringing it up again just to see the look on Lily's face!

I don't think Stella's anywhere near as icy as people think, tbh she looks fragile as anything sometimes; and her reactions to the AC baby, Lily's return, the hominid family, the pregnant woman etc show how close to the edge she probably is. You can see why Berger thinks he can turn her.

I hope we at least get to see who's on the incoming transporter before the series ends...

Tee hee. Is it a bit too much Alexis Carrington and Dex Dexter for you? I agree that Stella isn't as controlled as she likes to appear and she's far more interesting when her facade cracks a bit.

^Thanks.

So comparable with Being Human then (actually more I think).

If only Outcasts was as cheap to make!

I kinda hope it's getting a lot of viewers on iPlayer or recorded but I doubt it's going to get enough to survive. Real shame.

Elsewhere on the multichannels, the latest instalment of Being Human scored 977k (3.6%) for BBC Three from 9pm
...
Moved to a late-night slot after low ratings, the latest episode of sci-fi drama Outcasts grabbed 1.52m (10.5%) from 10.30pm.

I actually had a friend email me yesterday saying "Why didn't they tell me they'd moved Outcasts to Sunday!"

I'd be surprised if it got enough viewers via iplayer to save it.

I watched it on Virgin replay. I don't know if that is monitored as part of iPlayer.

I think it is, certainly when you go into it (assuming your Virgin tv is the same as mine) is does call it iplayer?

Well despite being undeniably clunky in places (I like ths show but even I'd say Cass' escape from his cell is one of the stupidest things I've ever seen!) this was a cracker in places. Cass' history starts to be revealed, the nature of the alien force on Carpathia was revealed a little bit more--and it seems whatever it is the ACs have made peace with it.

The fact that Cass' seduction and framing had less to do with a giant conspiracy and was instead all about one abusive relationship was a nice touch. Hanging the AC was a bit of a shock, and Fleur and Jack? NOOO!!

Seriously though, and again as someone who likes the show, would you really take your police record to another planet with you?
