Episodes

Hope no-one minds a mild necrobump but since the series has now finished its run of seven episodes, it feels more legitimate to bump this thread rather than start a new one, since I wondered if anyone stuck with it to the end?

I did, and really loved the last episode (the penultimate one, you could telegraph what was going to happen at the end from a mile off, tho' it was still amusingly done). But the last ep managed two very different fights (one slapstick and light; one verbal and actually fairly powerfully done for a sitcom at times) very nicely. Sharply written, I thought, and the situation that would now be the kicking-off point for a theoretical second series has lots of comic potential.

I suspect the show won't get that second series; few people seem have stuck with it, but I enjoyed it and feel my comedy universe is a better place for it having existed. :D

It's such a shame that the first two episodes were so poor. Not everyone would have enjoyed the later eps even if they stuck with it (eg Prof Zoom above didn't), but I think some would have, maybe even enough to have justified another series. Oh well.

You might get lucky, the ratings for only fools and horses where not very good to begin with but the BBC gave them another shot.
Hell they even gave the red dwarf rip off (can't remember its name) a second series and that show was terrible from start to finish.

True, and a nice thought, so thank you! But sadly I suspect with LeBlanc's salary, Episodes is more expensive than Fools was at the start. I don't know how the finance was split between BBC and Showtime, but if it wasn't successful enough in the US to justify a second series there, I doubt it'll get a UK-only commission. But I don't really follow the business side of TV enough to know if that's true or just my hunch.

Hyperspace, maybe?

Couldn't manage more than 10-15 minutes of that one, IIRC.

Hyperspace is the one.
I think I sat though a whole episode once, waiting for the fun to start.

I stuck with it, thought it was very enjoyable in the end. The fight had me in stitches. and the other fight "Man the way you guys fight, we're like 'fuck you' 'FUCK YOU'" had its moments too. They seem hopeful of a second series commission, so who knows. I wouldn't mind seeing more.

Well, there are reports today that a second season has been ordered, but they appear to originate from The Sun...

I saw an article the other day that they'd sold the series to 186 countries so far. That's pretty impressive and I would imagine that would help with the costs of production somewhat.

On the fence, but I suspect that it'll probably get a second season. Showtime figures weren't that much different to Californication's the last time I checked.

Also read an interview with Tamsin Greig over the weekend where she was saying that parties were already talking about a second season.

Awesome - and unexpected to me - news!

Is it too much to hope for a longer run, too?

Seriously though, I think with a second series, the show will be able to build on the stronger parts of the first year, and it's got some real potential for the future. Mangan/Grieg/LeBlanc play off each other so damn well.
