Victoria Jennifer Johnson (The Ladies' Thread)

My hubby, bless his heart, said he hated going to the doc for physicals because of the (of course) dreaded prostate exam.

I pointed to his iPad and said sweetly, "Look up the following term: recto-pelvic exam. Try that every four months for the next five years."

I don't believe I've ever seen him get so pale so fast.

With all due respect to RJD and his kidney stones of awesomeness, I tend to find the typical male response of Oh, yeah? Well, ... we have pain and discomfort occasionally, too! quaintly amusing.
I would never say that. I feel very sorry for anyone who suffers chronic pain of any kind.

I will never forget hearing a man say, in complete seriousness, that his sciatica pain (which he had had a few times in his life) was "FAR" worse than labor pain. He said this in front of his wife who had had 3 horrific 36 hour labors which he was present at. They are divorced now.
My mother has also had kidney stones and she said that the pain is far worse than childbirth. And if she says that anything is more painful than giving birth to me, you better believe it. :rommie:

So I stand by my bragging. :mallory:

I'm not a fan of these sorts of comparisons or competitions anyway. There's no way to know how men would deal with the pain we go through. We don't even all go through the same level of pain. And for a guy to come in and brag about how well he handles pain when there are women in obvious discomfort isn't really useful either.

Ultimately it would be nice if men understood that some of us deal with quite severe physical symptoms every month, and the kind of toll that can take on us. But it would also be nice if we had a little more faith in the resilience of men as well.

Oh, RJ, relax, our brave little soldier. We're all open-minded here and mustn't take offense to anything said, remember?

I have great faith in the resilience of men - all I have to go through is the PMS, mr trampledamage has to cope with being the target of me going through the PMS - now that is hard core ;)

This is true. Everybody has different symptoms and thresholds.

It's very useful. It gives me an excuse to brag about my kidney stones. :mallory:

Oh, don't worry. I didn't take offense. I'm just joking around. :)
