That was great! While i was watching it I was thinking about all those times of True Grit shown by Janeway, too many to even list! Of not backing down. It's a contrast to Picard who has one big not backing down scene.. "The line must be drawn here! This far and no farther!" That's like the angriest and won't-back-down he gets. Not of course that he is a wimp or something, just that his style is completely different than Janeway who has "line will be drawn" scenes rather regularly :D

Every time I read this thread title, I imagine Rod Stewart sining, "If you like my Janeway and you think she's sexy, come on sugar let me know."

Is that a good or bad thing?

To be fair... there's also "There are FOUR lights!"

But i know what you mean.

Many's the time I'll hear anti Janeway folk use the "bitch slap" scene in Basics I to illustrate how weak Janeway is as a Captain.

    Oh man. I soooo disagree.

Watching Culluh strike her over and over... and watching her stand up EACH and EVERY time to plead for her crew showed so MUCH of her heart that I just want to shout!

ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR FREAKING MINDS!!!!!!!!!!!!! :scream:

It was her Kobayashi Maru, for god's sake...

ADMIRAL KIRK:"How we deal with death is at least as important as how we deal with life, wouldn't you say?"

It's NOT a club... it is an attitude.

Its class, its inner strength, its justified confidence, its the "oh my gosh" sensation she leaves behind when she breezes by...

What does she SMELL like, Guy? I for the life of me don't recall. I was just so mesmerized by the power she carried in her voice/her eyes/her very stance, I think I forgot to inhale.

    Oh true!

But see you had to torture Picard for a won't-back-down moment.

"Living Witness" Evil Janeway was pretty sexy. IMO.

I dunno, y'all. It is well known that my love for Janeway is great, but Picard had his fair share of "I won't back down" moments. A few that come to mind off the top of my head:

"If we're going to be damned, let's be damned for what we really are." To Q, "Encounter at Farpoint" - remember, this was when Q was an unknown and scary alien life form.

Standing up against the witch hunt in "The Drumhead":

"You know, there are some words I’ve known since I was a schoolboy: “With the first link, the chain is forged. The first speech censored, the first thought forbidden, the first freedom denied, chains us all irrevocably.” Those words were uttered by Judge Aaron Satie, as wisdom and warning. The first time any man’s freedom is trodden on, we’re all damaged."

Let's not forget his great "Well, there it sits" speech in "Measure of a Man", either.

And one of my personal favorites, from "The Defector"
Picard: "If the cause is just and honourable, they are prepared to give their lives. Are you?"
Tomalak "Really Picard, I expected more from you than an idle threat!"
Picard: "Then you shall have it!"
BOOM three Klingon ships decloak and Tomalak pees in his pants.

Just a quick post to give some props to the second sexiest captain in Starfleet. I now return you to your regularly scheduled Janeway-droolfest.

*goes off singing* "If you like my Janeway, and you think she's sexy . . . "

You mean before he was the doofus we came to know and love

And those words need to be emblazoned on EVERYTHING! Especially right now with all of the "end of the world" talk. If the Earth is going to be destroyed then it's be our own fault because we damned ourselves.

What end of the world talk? I did not get this memo.

And I stand corrected on Picard but he is still not the BAMF Janeway is!

2012, armegeddon, Judgement Day, all of that jazz.

Janeway's still sexier and BAMF-ier, but Picard comes pretty damn close.

I think that this is true, but only because of the difference in their situations. Picard was investigating spacial anomalies and ferrying around diplomats. Therefore, his "not backing down moments" were often philosophical in nature. Even when he was in combat, he was a man who knew that he had the rest of the Fleet more or less at his back.

On the other hand, Janeway was in a crisis situation every single day for seven years. (I consider being stuck that far from home a crisis situation, anyway.) Her problems tended to be more immediate - physical danger, or situations involving charged emotions. So her "not backing down moments" were usually more exciting than Picard's.

But I think if the roles were reversed, we'd've seen "Janeway and Dathon at El-Audrel" - and Picard making a suicide run into the Kremin timeship. They each have what it takes to fill both roles.

Yeah I said as much in my comments about desperado Janeway in the favorite actors thread.

But.. I like her lack of philosophizing, I enjoy a good kick ass woman

I stopped at a friend's house (fellow Voy lover) one day in the 1990's, after a particularly harrowing week, and plopped down into an easy chair to gripe.

JR!: "How does she do it?"

    Luckless friend: "Who do what?"

JR!: "How does Captain Janeway do it? Every day she's running from bad guys, searching for supplies, fighting with the disgruntled on her ship? How does she do it."

I paused for a few seconds before I added.

JR!: "I guess it helps being a FICTIONAL character."

    :guffaw:

I finally figured out what BAMF stands for!

In the lap of squalor I assure you.
Actually, as we found out in Flesh and Blood, Kathryn got through from day to day by selling replicatiors to any one who had provisions or passport she needed to keep her ship running and on course.

A deeply deeply criminal act if we believe season one Janeway condemning Seska for doing exacting the same thing.
