The Legend of Zelda turns 25

I liked Ocarina of Time. I should probably get one of the DS versions, too, just to see how those are.

I played A Link to the Past, and while I didn't hate it, I just couldn't really get into it.

I've been playing through Phantom Hourglass recently, and it's alright. The maps are simpler as they are in any of the other top down Zelda games, and it uses a lot of the DS gimmicks, such as being played entirely with the stylus, and using the microphone to shout, but it does it fairly well. There is some clever use of drawing on the screen to accomplish goals, but sometimes I just wish I could use the D-pad for some precise running and fighting.
Overall I'd say it's a good DS game, although it's got nothing on Ocarina of Time. But then again, what does?

Supposedly, Spirit Tracks is better than Phantom Hourglass. Of course, YMMV as always, but more people I've talked to seem to say that than otherwise.

I haven't played either one, actually.

Everything I heard about Spirit Tracks was that it was absolutely horribly. I did play Phantom Hourglass and it was enjoyable.

I really need to just accept that for everything that ever was, there are ten thousand opinions on it and stop assuming if everyone on one site seems largely in unison on a matter that I should expect the same reports elsewhere. :alienblush:

Probably worth keeping in mind that there's a large proportion of contrarians here, so anything you think is (un)popular, you will find the opposite to be the case for a sizable portion of the membership here.

And to the contrary, GameFAQs forum posters seem to wear their hearts on their sleeves and state their narrow viewpoints of the universe with unabashed fury all the time.

I think I like this place more. It's exciting!

The DKC games breathed new life into the platformer, in my opinion. I was pretty bored with platform games after Super Mario World until Donkey Kong Country came along.

Hey, they made a Red Mario Wii. What if Nintedno made a green Zelda Themed Wii with a raised Triforce on one side? They could pack it with Skyward Sword and a 25th anniversary re-release of Zelda-Ocarnia of Time, or Twilight Princess. I would so get it!

I'm a huge Zelda fan in theory, but I will admit to getting bored with the franchise. The format is exactly the same with each game and I'm getting bored with it. I wouldn't mind a Zelda in the style of say Alundra or Landstalker, but I somehow doubt Nintendo will make any major changes to such a reliable cash cow.

All beliefs being held to the utmost aside, most people didn't agree with you and Nintendo never went anywhere near that road again, so unfortunately I don't foresee it happening.

Sadly yes, but that doesn't mean Nintendo can't shake up the franchise in other ways. Adding motion/stylus controls does not count.

I think people have finally seen motion controls for the gimmick that they are... I said it when the Wii came out, but did anyone listen? Noooo.... :D
