NHL 2010/2011 season....

So the Canucks D has been having some really bad luck with injuries so far, especially lately. First Edler, then Sweatt, Hamhuis, and Ballard, after that Alberts, and now Bieksa is out as well. This is fucking depressing.

No shit its frustrating too, don't know what they can do at the deadline??

^ Not much really, they're already pretty close to the cap. So basically the only option would be to trade a forward (like Raymond) for a similarly priced D. Or maybe package a forward and a cheap defenceman (like Rome) for a slightly more expensive D. They could also use a proper fourth line center.

Stoked for the Heritage Classic tomorrow, and I can barely wait!

At least it won't be -20, but the cold does kind of concern me a bit. I will drink lots.

Watchin the Habs/Flames alumni game on HNIC. Not bad as old timers' games go. And it's cold! My hat's off to those guys. I'm a little ways north in Edmonton but it's roughly the same temperature and I almost lost my balls to frostbite running across the street for groceries this morning!

Also, it's always life-affirming to see that Lanny MacDonald is hanging in there with that moustache

I was at the Leafs game last night, my first at the ACC. Too bad frakking Craig Anderson stole the show, the bastard.

'Twas great seeing the rink, though. It*'s a very well-built arena, with solid sightlines, a great video scoreboard, and slick presentation throughout the game. The concourses were also nice, if maybe a touch confusing in places. It beats the hell out of Scotiabank Place, that's for sure.

I took a few pictures, but I won't be able to post them until I get back to Ottawa in a few days.

:wtf::wtf::wtf:

Excuse me, but WHAT THE FUCK are they doing singing the American anthem at an NHL game where both teams are Canadian? Are these people totally clued out as to where they are.

Hello!!! You're in Alberta at a game between Calgary and Montreal. Just who and why the hell are you performing the American anthem for???

This is one of the stupidest things I've ever seen. They sing the American anthem when there isn't an American based team playing and yet they can't be bothered to sing the mixed English/French version of O' Canada.

And to inflame the insult Paul Brandt can't sing the Canadian anthem worth a damn. Oh, and does this mean they'll be singing the Canadian anthem at games where there are only American based teams??? Not fuckin' likely.

What a bunch of fuck ups.

My father is so put out by this he refuses to watch the game.

Overreact much?

I don't understand why they did the american national anthem, but the only reason I can think of was that it was part of a day long celebration of Hockey Day in America and there might be a few Americans who play on both sides. Other than that, it's not a big deal.

Doesn't matter. Unless they going to do it at American arenas then they shouldn't do it here.

They did. "O Canada" was sung before the Winter Classic. Also, Buffalo apparently performs "O Canada" before every game.

^ On NBC, I think. The CBC had a lot of "imitation is the highest form of flattery" style coverage.

I don't know how many of you have seen the clip, but I thought Don Cherry calling Mario Lemieux a "hypocrite" was right on (and it's rare to say that about Cherry these days)

How can you have a player like Matt Cooke running around, playing dirty, and then say "It's got to stop or I'm leaving!" after one of your guys get sucker punched.

I lost a lot of respect for Mario there.

^ Yeah me too. And Cooke isn't the only dirty player on that team. Malkin's dirty hit on Mitchell comes to mind.

I've said this for years, but I think the way to stop these dirty and cheap hits that injure players is that if you injure someone with a hit determined by the league to be cheap or dirty you're off the ice as long as they are, without pay.

Problem solved. And if you could apply it retroactively, Todd Bertuzzi would never play again. :techman:

Lumping Malkin in with an ass like Cooke based on one non-suspension worthy hit is utterly ridiculous. From a Canucks standpoint, that's the same as comparing Mitchell to Rick Rypien because of his hit on Toews.

Besides, people dragging Matt Cooke into this have no idea what they are talking about. Had Mario lashed out at the league for not suspending Steckel, then calling him a hypocrite would hold merit. But, that's not at all what he's doing. This isn't about hard open ice hits in the heat of play, or boarding defensemen playing a dump-in. Mario's upset because an entire team got off with a minor slap on the wrist for gooning up their roster, and repeatedly attempting to cause serious injury to members of his team. Mario's upset because pinning a man to the ice, and pummeling him in the head repeatedly long after he had fallen unconscious with a concussion was deemed to be a mere 9 game offense. He's upset because sucker punching an unsuspecting player in the back of the head as he passed by during a stoppage of play, and then pounding on him as he collapsed to the ground was deemed a mere 4 game suspension.
