NHL 2010/2011 season....

So Ottawa continues to clean house and has shipped Chris Kelly off to Boston. Should make for an interesting game when they play each other on Friday.

Joel Quenneville has been hospitalized due to "severe discomfort". He's stable, but no word on what's wrong other than that it isn't cardiac related.

Weird. They are having a shit season but I'm surprised Murray's hitting the self-destruct button already.

But maybe I'm just too used to the Toronto way: drag ass for a few years all the while pretending you're only one deal away from contending for the Cup.

I hope he's alright. I like Quenneville a lot and if he wasn't the coach of the Blackhawks, he'd look good coaching the Teal.

Great game last night in Nashville. They always seem close, but at least the Sharks didn't choke it away like they did in New Jersey and Florida. I have to wonder though, those two games might come back and bite the team in the ass in the future. Those were games that easily could have been had and the fact that they kind of laid down with minutes to go in the third and didn't play the full 60 is a bit unnerving. Still, I'll take a 5 and 2 road trip and am really glad they're finally going to play a home game again. It seems like forever with these long road trips.

DeafPoet, Canadave, just having some teasing fun as I'm sure you guessed. ;)

And last night's victory was nice. I certainly don't expect the Leafs to push for the final playoff spot but I'll be happy if they can crawl out of the bottom five.

Yeah, James Mirtle said on Twitter yesterday that the Leafs would need to go 19-7-0 to hit 90 points, the likely cutoff. I don't see that happening, even though they have been pretty good since the All-Star break.

They've been that way for the last couple of years. Out of contention before the all star break then they get hot when it doesn't matter.

I do like seeing Ottawa at the bottom. Hehehe. Even the Islanders have moved past them in the standings.

Well, there's a good chance Miller's not starting tonight so I like the Leafs' chances better than I usually do when they go to Buffalo. HSBC is usually a fucking abattoir for them.

I know I should really try not to get excited because we've been here before, but... the Leafs are 6-2-1 since the All Star Break, Phil Kessel scored twice in Boston last night, and now tonight they won in Buffalo by a goal. God damn this team puts me through a ringer sometimes.

EDIT: And their next two games are against Ottawa and the Islanders, which could put them three or four points out of eighth.

Agh, I need to stop doing this. :scream:

Apart from the Sabres, there's nothing but slumping mediocre teams between the Leafs' and 7th. I wouldn't rule it out. Hell, I'm not ruling out New Jersey at this point.

Me neither. And you know what the difference between NJ now and NJ in December is? They shitcanned their awful coach.

You listening, Mr. Burke? ;)

You're not helping.

I don't particularly think MacLean was a bad coach. It was his first job, I think he just didn't have the experience at the NHL level.

He would have been a good coach for a rebuild without any kind of expectations where he and a team could grow.

So the Canucks D has been having some really bad luck with injuries so far, especially lately. First Edler, then Sweatt, Hamhuis, and Ballard, after that Alberts, and now Bieksa is out as well. This is fucking depressing.

Wanna combine your offense with Pittsburgh's defense? Our second line is currently being centered by a guy who has 3 goals this season-- which is 3 more than he had in 82 games last season. Between the two, we could have a complete hockey team.

The Avalanche, fresh off a 9-1 ass kicking at the hands of the Flames- where each goalie got pulled more than once, have traded Craig Anderson to Ottawa for Brian Elliott.

Andy had one stellar season where he played out of his mind, probably should have won the Vezina and carried the team into the playoffs.

To say he's struggled of late isn't fair, he's had no defense in front of him and I think he reverted back to what he is: A journeyman goalie.

Trading Anderson isn't the answer, the defense has to get a lot better and deeper.

I don't get that one. Seems pretty dumb to me. Elliot's up-side isn't much better than what a Anderson's done during his slump. I would have stuck with Anderson for the time being.

Anderson is due to become a UFA this summer, while Elliott will be a RFA. There's also some talk that the Avs either aren't done dealing or they're going after Vokoun in the off season.

At least they'll have a high draft pick again this year. If it can work out as well as the Duschene pick, they'll have something to build with.

Sorry to see Kaberle go but it's good to see it finally done after 2 years of school yard gossip. Also, there's the fact that Burke never would have signed him again so it's better that we got something out of it.

And one of those things is a first round pick! So, 2 lowish picks in the first round instead of what would have been 1 highish one. Given that the draft is basically a total crapshoot most years, I think we made out pretty well on this thing.

The sharks got a defensemen before the trade deadline. Yeah they gave up a third round draft pick, but I like the move because we needed something to boost up the defense. I wonder if anything else will get done even though I've heard that they might be a little over the salary cap which is bad I suppose.
