Fate of the Terran Empire (spoiler)

Mr. Laser Beam

Fleet Admiral
Admiral
In ST:Online, the Terran Empire is eventually restored. That's not going to happen in Treklit, is it? That would go against everything Spock planned.

Memory Beta's entry on the Empire treats its STO restoration as gospel. I keep trying to edit it, relegating STO to the alternate timeline it is (and also mentioning that mainstream Treklit is obviously not going to restore the Empire), but the same guy keeps reversing my edits! :brickwall:

Yeah, one of the big flaws with Memory Beta is that it clumps everything together without acknowledging that it isn't actually all in one continuity. It must be very confusing to any casual fans looking for information.

Personally, pitiful as I am, I work on my own private "encyclopedia" that keeps to the modern novel continuity, canon, and anything that doesn't conflict with these. All consistant there .

This 'Captain Mike' really needs to stop his love affair with ST:Online. As I patiently explained to him, STO is no more official or 'real' an interpretation of Trek's future than anything else! Yet he keeps reversing every edit I do to this page.

I just checked and it has been separated into an other continuities section ATM.

I've all but abandoned Memory Beta because of him. He pisses on my every contribution and I'm tired of it.

I never really paid attention to who was doing the edits (other than my own), but I'm gonna start now.
Now that you guys mention mention him, I think I've even fixed some weird stuff that Captain Mike has done in the past.

Yeah... this guy is a tool.

STO is NOT the expanded universe's be-all-end-all.

I myself prefer the Modern Lit. Continutiy.

As such, I eagerly await "The Knife's" continutation of Emperor Spock's master plan.

Agreed. He's the reason I stopped contributing.

^ In the talk page for the Terran Empire entry, David Mack himself laid the smackdown now...

He's writing Rise Like Lions and he flat-out says the Empire will definitely NOT be restored...

...so I hope that'll be the end of this.

^ It probably won't, as he has repeatedly stated that author comments are not a viable source, only what has been in the books, games, comics etc. counts.

And I guess he insists on the STO version so far since the years covered by that haven't been covered by the books, so there's no contradictory information, hence no need to separate it into an alternative reality.

I'm not his biggest fan either, or of the lumping together of information from different media unless they directly contradict each other, but he's just following the current MB guidelines here.

It's not just a matter of the guidelines -- he treats other posters with extreme disrespect.

But, in any regard, MB guidelines need to change, I would argue. Though that can only be done by community consensus, as I understand it.

.... who wants to organize a coup? ;)

Yeah I'm in, as long as we don't try to introduce any of that nasty democracy!

Trek Lit Dictatorship all the way!

I'd simply propose that we all show up en masse somewhere with a single set of suggestions for changing how MB organizes its information, requiring that information from works that a clearly set in different continuities label that info as being from such-and-such a continuity.

For instance, an article on the Imperial Romulan State would feature a section for the "Destinyverse" continuity that most Trek Lit novels are set in, and a section for the ST Online-verse. Similarly, an article on Nanietta Bacco would list info for her from the "Destinyverse," and another section with information on her from the Online-verse, etc.

We should probably have our proposal fully written out and have as many people signing on to support it as possible before we present it on MB.

Just looked at some of his edits. They're idiotic, he's tried to be clever and ended up making about half a dozen orphaned pages (which I've had to fix) :grumble:

Sounds to me like Memory Beta should either become a literature-only (including comics) resource, or do a better job of specifying alternate realities like STO.

Getting semi-back on topic, for those of you who don't follow David Mack on Facebook, he posted this yesterday...

I just blew up something BIG in Star Trek's mirror universe. Damn, that felt good! Plus, there's more destruction to come... BWU-HAHAHA!
...and this today...

Just killed off a major character in Star Trek's 24th-century mirror universe. Now this book is starting to get FUN.

I seriously can't wait for this book! :)

(I hope that Mr. Mack doesn't have any issues with my re-posting his Facebook posts here. if so, I deeply and humbly apologize.)
