Hospital Food: An Open Rant

First world problems. ;)

I phrased my "letter" to food-services the way I did because A) I was genuinely curious as to the reason and B) I didn't want to be ungrateful and C) I always inject EVERYTHING with an irreverent blast of humor.

Oh and the doctors say DASH is ok in moderation.

Having spent about a month in Hoag Hospital in neighboring Newport Beach spread between two visits last year and this January, I was pleasantly surprised at the variety and quality of the food both with and without dietary restrictions. It all depends on the hospital.

Do they have a place for you to lock up your laptop when you're asleep or not in the room? Or do you feel safe leaving it out? I'm curious, because I'm anticipating a hospital stay of my own in a few weeks, and I was thinking of taking my iPad w/ me.

I hope you get through the week as painlessly and frustration-free as possible. Be well.

Depends on the Hospital. This one is very good with security.

I have my DESKTOP with me as my lappy isn't up to Online Gaming. They were surprisingly ok with that going so far as to give me a lock cable. It's attached to my bed here.

Suggest a security program like LOJACK if they have it for iPAD or some other security precaution.

LOL picturing your hospital room w/ desktop computer. But, seriously, I think it's wonderful that they let you bring it.

I'll look into security for my iPad. I have no idea at this point how long I'm going to be in; it would be nice to think that it will be so brief that I won't feel the need for a computer.

Being a male nurse myself, I would like to say the following:

Get over it! It's not a hotel!

 I love the OP!

I was in hospital after a drunken incident that led to me breaking my hand. I wasn't allowed to eat the previous night, and hadn't eaten since the previous day anyway as I was pretty hungover.

By the time I got round to actually eating some hospital food I wasn't fussy, but thought it was fab. Not sure if a lack of food or a throbbing hand changes your perspective or not. :D

Indeed it is not. It's better than a hotel because they managed to correct a problem that would have killed me in short order.

I requested a tour of food-services with the intention of finding out why hospital food is "bad." And I shared the results with the crew here.

In reality I am grateful for the three meals as I said in my rant. And doubly so after seeing all the effort they put in to produce so many different meals for different situations day after day after day.

Friday I leave the hospital with my condition under control and a new appreciation for the effort the food-service staff puts on.
