Current Popular British Comedies?

I love catching up on British shows, but I usually end up seeing them a decade after they came out. I love Doctor Who and Red Dwarf and I've seen a fair smattering of brit-coms (Black Adder, Ab Fab, Black Books, Coupling, Little Britain, IT Crowd). I'm also catching the new Primeval season on BBC America.

So I was wondering what the funniest current brit-coms are out there? I know IT Crowd is still in production but I'm caught up with that.

"Miranda" is pretty funny. The woman who plays her(Miranda Hart)has a great physical presence and does pratfalls really well. I'd recommend that.

For more intimate, quieter Britcoms I'd recommend "The Smoking Room" and that one set in a pub written by the gormless son in law from "The Royle Family".

the smoking room is a great show it reminds me of the office . the bbc version .
shows I love from the UK:

1) doctor who
2) red dwarf
3) coupling
4) black adder
5) open all night
6) black books
7) are you being served ?
8) robin hood ( I know it's not a commedy )

these are a just a few of what I like from the UK .

Now starting april 1 2011 on starz come camelot with a great brit cast .
any one going to watch ?

"Not Going Out" is one of favourite UK comedy shows still going, but I haven't seen the latest season yet but I enjoyed the first three a lot.

Other shows I've enjoyed that are still going are "The Armstrong and Miller Show" and "The Old Guys". Plus another support for "Miranda".

Shows that I've heard good things about but haven't really watched are "The Inbetweeners" and "Gavin and Stacy".

My favourite comedy from last year was "Rev." which starred Tom Hollander. It had a lot of great moments in that first series. (It also takes on a whole new meaning if you watch it imagining that Steve Evets's character is God in human form.)

The other comedy I enjoyed last year was "The Trip" - which was essentially Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon go on a tour of restaurants together and do their usual thing, albeit only partly improvised. Those two always make me laugh.

I also enjoyed "Miranda" - in the era of sitcoms with no live audience or laugh track, it's a refreshing change of pace that harkens back to the golden age of British sitcoms, and Miranda Hart is one of the funniest female comedians out there.

Another vote for "Not Going Out" too, although I also missed the most recent series. Lee Mack and Tim Vine always crack me up.

Oh, and before I go, that reminds me: "Limmy's Show" is back this week! :D

I'd instantly say check out The Inbetweeners, and I haven't seen it mentioned here so far, so Peep Show as well.

An old one, but the OP didn't mention it, so just in case it's evaded your radar so far, Spaced is a work of genius. :)

another good one is keeping up appearances. The guy who played holly in the first season of red dwarf guest stared on it . and the guy who is married to hieisan was resently on doctor who. the old guys is on tonight and so is outnumbered and allo allo.

I'd agree with The Inbetweeners, Armstrong & Miller, That Mitchell & Webb Look, Rev, The Trip and Outnumbered. Not exactly comedy but I'd add Misfits. There's also Charlie Brooker's shows, Screenwipe, Newswipe, Gameswipe, How TV Ruined Your Life, You Have Been Watching, as well as Deadset.
Another one that definitely needs adding to the list is Psychoville oh and The League of Gentlremen too.

I wouldnt say there are any particularly good comedies going on right now in the UK. Peep Show is past its prime, Inbetweeners is just a dumb cross between Peep Show and SKins, Gavin and Stacy is pretty average, Outnumbered is pretty average. I havent seen 'Not Going Out', but Ill have a look.

Unfortunetely, it seems like America is going to beat us at comedies soon, as well as drama.

Come Fly With Me is probably the latest big thing, from the Little Britain crowd. Launced on Xmas day and already been repeated. It's been renewed for a second series.

There was also a little comedy on BBC Four, which was repeated on BBC Two recently, called The Great Outdoors. I liked it, if only for seeing Mark Heap at his most Cleese-like. Anyone else see it?

Oh yeah I loved Spaced and League of Gentlemen. I saw Extras too.

To alter the question slightly, what are the current brit-coms with the highest RATINGS? I know that Little Britain was hugely popular even though a lot of people despised its low brow humor and total reliance on catchphrases.

Couldn't say which is the one with the highest ratings, probably Outnumbered or Not Going Out as they're on BBC One.

Speaking of BBC Four comedy, there's also Jo Brand's Getting On. And how I forgot this I don't know, The Thick of it is a must watch.
