The trick to the Mogai is... killing it is not a victory condition...

Of course this solution probably doesn't occur to you Klingons. :)

I just went to full impulse and shot towards the opening, where I had previously destroyed the door-locking mechanism before being blown up by the damn Mogai.

that's pretty much what i did in my delta flyer. on the second try in the chamber i just kept away from the mogai and ran for the door

yeah. oh at the end with the bop did you find it would fly into a wall and get stuck like fly paper? happened to me, was kind of funny and it made it easier as my piloting skills are more of the oops what was that crunch :)

No! I'm jealous, now. :klingon:

I got blasted by the BoP, and respawned. Fortunately, when I respawned, the "Exit Station" button appeared and I clicked it before I could be attacked.

I beat it using the type 8 shuttle. It was fun, except with the BOP at the end. In my case, it got stuck, kept firing, and none of my stuff affected it. I got blowed up twice before I could get out of there.

lol. I experienced something of a similar situation, except I only got blown up once.

A few things I've been thinking about in regards to STO:

-The First Contact missions don't really work the way they do in the series. In this case, it's more of a "prearranged get to know you better" meeting. I like them, but still.

-It'd be nice to go into the observation lounge when you visit your bridge.

Runabouts are more durable than shuttles, correct? Because there were times when I was wondering whether I should have bought the runabout.

I can't prove it, but that was my impression too.

And why is the shuttle counting as a whole starship?

Because in every way it consumes the same amount of data storage as a starship, and functions within the game as a starship object.

The Devs have said, though, they want the player to be able to go down to his shuttlebay, pick the one they like (assuming you have more than one) and take off...
That said, they will probably still take up a starship slot.
OTOH... when was the last time you flew one of your earlier ships after getting a new one?

Excepting the TOS Connie, of course; all us old guys keep that one around and bust it out from time to time. :)

Another thing about this; the Devs tested "The Vault" thoroughly using the Type 8 shuttle with "Common" consoles and the default weapons provided. You might have to change which Boff you seat, you might have to change the difficulty slider, but you CAN do it with that shuttle.

Don't forget you're more maneuverable than the Mogai; it can't shoot you if it doesn't have line of sight. Also, if the BoP gets stuck in a wall and turns invulnerable as a result, just wander off around out of range/around a corner and it will eventually reset.

The line-of-sight thing is vitally important, to be honest - helps that I spent the last 4 months on a Halo binge, but there's really something to be said for hot-footing it away from your foes, making sure to keep as much scenery between you and them (literally!).*

It's probably the most important tactic for this mission - all those pretty structures inside the Vault make for plenty of obstacles to put in the Remans' way (particularly the two larger ships). Just make sure your piloting skills are on form - don't slow yourself down trying to manoeuvre through a convoluted path, or else you risk falling prey to the same trick.

(Incidentally, that's also how I got past all the security teams for that episode in the Devidian series - didn't bother sneaking through, or fighting - just ran like the clappers with my redshirts in tow, and hoped the others gave up before I did!)

*Beat solo Legendary on Halo: Reach, and I'm not so proud I won't admit that in many cases, running the hell away is a far better idea than trying to kill every single opponent out of a mistaken sense of completism... ;)

You can completely avoid the Mogai if you stick to the wall and the BoP is quite beatable in a runabout. Trick is having an officer with an ensign level power that repairs shields or hull.

Its also beatable in a Delta Flyer if you upgrade the shields and have a nice tactical ability like torpedo spread.

I was surprised that it was fairly easy to beat. Once it de-cloaked I said "Oh shit" to myself, but it barely scratched the hull of the Monongahela.

I will set up the next STF run for next sunday...
You have the whole week to join the team.
A team is limited to 5 captains, if we exceed that number dont hesitate to join anyway, we can always open a second team and fill remaining spots with guest captains from friendly other fleets...

Please check the the event tab in the fleet menu to join the run.
